Dear Liam, how are you doing? I hope you're doing fine.

Man you would never believe that I became superman for 3 minutes yesterday as I rescued a child from an armed attacker.

Now, don't laugh. This is serious. It was a life and death stuff, yeah I know I'm scrawny and skinny but yesterday all those was replaced by cold rage and a sense of duty to save the young lad.

On my way home just past six in the evening, I saw a young teen arguing with an older boy about something, I decided to mind my business, when suddenly the bigger (and older) guy brought out a jack knife!

I acted without thinking, and I'm glad I did because it probably saved the young lad's life. I struggled with the attacker for a while, after he had already slashed the kid on the arm a few times, I overpowered him and with the help of some bystanders, we rendered him immobile. The police was called and they took the rascal away.

Well, enough of my three minutes heroics, hope you're having a swell time over there.

The correct answer is: Each author uses figurative language.

Indeed, the first author uses figurative language (he took the tortillas out of his poetry) which is followed by a very explicit explanation, that the character in question “took the soul out of his poetry”. This use of figurative language is effective in eliciting an emotional response from the reader by the pathos of the premise, that removing foreign, Mexican Spanish words from the character’s poetry also removes its soul, in other words, its identity.

The second author also uses figurative language and there is a hint of irony in the description that immediately follows the dialogue. The immediate landscape is used to show the “heritage-deprived” person that he actually does have a heritage. In other words, he does not need to be a hyphenated American in order to have a heritage because it is right there “dangling over his head”.

The symbolism of the “tall American tree” is used to show how the speaker of these lines that America has its own heritage, which lies in its history, its melting pot and its territory and he cannot even see it.

Most of the people in a third world country who deals with a lot of tourists or foreigners can relate to this. There will always be a language barrier that you should be wary of. I had worked as a tour-guide once and I had Japanese customers with me. As you may know, most of Japanese people have a hard time speaking in or understanding English and if they don't, they somehow find it difficult to pronounce some words. As a tour-guide, I need to speak slowly and clearly so that they will be able to understand every word that I say. In turn, they respond and ask questions to me which means that they are hesitant to do so.

The speaker stops by a landscape during winter. The speaker provides descriptions of "broad muddy fields browning with dried weeds." The repetition of the color brown continues and the speaker comments on "dead brown leaves" hanging from the trees.

The poet uses noun phrases in the poem. leaves are “dead” and the vines “leafless.”

The poet uses personification and spring is personified as "sluggish" and "dazed". He says the spring enters like a foreiger and says how the landscape changes. The environment is described as a "naked" newborn fresh from the womb arriving into a confusing world.
