Jen and Ori are conducting an experiment to observe how sand and water absorb energy. They obtain two identical 1000-milliliter

(mL) beakers, add 500 mL of distilled water to the first beaker, and 500 cubic centimeters (cm3) of sand to the second beaker. They place both beakers on a hot plate that is set to medium heat. Thermometers are placed in each beaker and held with clamps. Both beakers are heated for seven minutes and then removed from the hotplate and cooled for an additional fifteen minutes. Jen and Ori record the temperature of each beaker at one-minute intervals. How could Jen and Ori have increased the reliability of their experiment?

3) The dimensions of your living room are 13 ft. by 16 ft. How many square meters of carpet
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

19.32 m²

Explanation:

The area of a living room is the product of its length and breadth. The area is given by:

Area = length × breadth

1 meter = 3.28 feet. Hence:

Length = 16 ft

16 ft = 16\ ft*\frac{1\ m}{3.28\ ft} =4.88\ m

Breadth = 13 ft

13 ft = 13\ ft*\frac{1\ m}{3.28\ ft} =3.96\ m

Area = length × breadth = 4.88 m × 3.96 m = 19.32 m²

Hence 19.32 m² of carpet is needed for the living room

Which condition occurs in the presence of cellular damage? Cells shrink. ATP production increases. Osmotic pressure decreases. S
schepotkina [342]

Answer:

Sodium and water move into the cell

Explanation:

Sodium and water move into the cell. This is because

Cellular damage result in failure of the Na+/k+ pump, allowing movement of sodium ions into the cell. This concentration of sodium pulls water in, resulting in hydropic swelling. Cellular damage results in the cell's inability to perform normal metabolic functions because APT decreases and Osmotic finally pressure increases.

Which of the following best describes how cleaning products like chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, and soap influence the infectious
torisob [31]

Answer:

These cleaning products break apart the capsules of the viruses causing them to no longer be capable of infecting an individual.

Explanation:

Bleach oxidises organic molecules. This causes proteins to become denatured, or lose their shape. The viral capsule containing the DNA is a coat made up of proteins that is required for the virus to become infectious. Therefore, following bleach treatment, the viral protein capsule become oxidised, cause them to loses their shape, meaning the virus can no longer infect individuals.

Identify the individual who most likely exhibits symptoms of cystinuria
xeze [42]

Answer: Individuals with a high concentration of cysteine in their urine, show symptoms of cystinuria.

Explanation:

Cystinuria is an hereditary and rare disease in which stones of an amino acid called cystine form mostly in the kidney but also in the ureter and bladder. This is a dimeric amino acid which is formed by two cysteine molecules linked by a disulfide bond. L-cysteine is a non-essential sulfuric amino acid found in a wide variety of foods, some of which are proteins. This condition is passed from parents to children so it is hereditary, the person must inherit the defective gene from both parents.

Cystinuria is caused when there is a high concentration of cystine in the urine. Normally, most cystine dissolves, enters the kidneys and returns to the bloodstream. However, people with cystinuria have the genetic defect that interferes with this process. This condition is due to a defective transport of cystine in the apical membrane of the intestinal epithelium and proximal renal tubule. The result is an absence of cystine reabsorption in the renal proximal tubule producing an excess of cystine in urine and with the consequent formation of kidney stones. Cystine stones are very difficult to remove by lithotripsy unlike the rest of the stones. Therefore, a non-invasive therapy should be carried out to prevent the recurrence of stone formation. This therapy would be based on a high intake of liquids, alkalization of urine, and use of chelating agents. In order to preserve kidney function, a combination of these three therapeutic measures is necessary to reduce both the recurrence and the morbidity of the disease.
