Alicia buys a 5 pound bag of rocks for a fish tank. She uses 1 1/8 pounds for a small fish bowl. How much is left?

She has 3 7/8 left because you take 1 whole away from 5. Then make the fraction 4 8/8 so then subtract it with 1 1/8 and the answer's 3 7/8

5-11/8= 3 5/8
I got this answer by making the 5 into 4 8/8 and 11/8 stayed the same.
Then I put the 4 from 4 8/8 to the side and divided 8/8 and got 1 0/8 so then I added the whole number 4 (the one i put to the side) and the 1 from the equation and got 5.
After that I added 5 and 11/8. At last I got 29/8 whis was an improper fracton then i 29÷8 and got 3 5/8

Beside my probably not understanding you could just do this.
 4 8/8-11/84+1=5 5-11/8=29/8 29÷8= 3 5/8
So your final answer is ⇒ ⇒ 3 5/8
