When Myra says, "This sun is cooking me," we can infer that she is in the hot sun and can feel the heat as though she is being cooked. I would argue that both short stories present characters (Goodman Brown and Mrs. Sommers, respectively) that are weary of their current lives and, ideally, would like to be able to escape.
