nt coupon, paid semiannually, a current maturity of 17 years, and sell for $1,162. It has 100,000 bonds outstanding. The firm can issue new 20-year maturity semiannual bonds at par but will incur flotation costs of $50 per bond. Solution :

Given :

The cost of the debt is yield to the maturity of the bonds.

The yield on the bond is 10%

The tax rate is 40%

After the tax cost of the debt = 10 ( 1- 0.4 )

                                          = 6 %

Add floatation cost at the rate of 5% = 11%

Cost of the preferred stock = $\frac{\text{dividend}}{\text{price}}$

                                             = $\frac{120}{12}$ = 10%

The cost of equity = risk free rate + β x market risk premium

                              = 3.72 + 0.94 x 6

                              = 9.36%

WACC is weighted average of the individual securities :

Particulars Value per No. of Market value Weight Cost of Product

                   security securities security

Bonds 1162 100,000 116,200,000 0.1578 11 1.73621298

Preferred 120 1,000,000 120,000,000 0.1629 10 1.6299918

stocks

Equity 100 5,000,000 500,000,000 0.6791 9.36 6.356968

                                                      736,200,000 1 WACC 9.7231730

Therefore, WACC of the firm is 9.72%

Two mutually exclusive projects have 3-year lives and a required rate of return of 10.5 percent. Project A costs $75,000 and has
Norma-Jean [14]

Answer:

Both projects should be rejected

Explanation:

The internal rate of return is the discount rate that equates the after tax cash flows from an investment to the amount invested.

IRR can be calculated using a financial calculator:

For project A,

Cash flow in year zero = $75,000

Cash flow in year one = $18,500

Cash flow in year two = $42,900

Cash flow in year three = $28,600

IRR = 9.12%

For project B,

Cash flow in year zero = $-72,000

Cash flow in year one = $22,000

Cash flow in year two = $38,000

Cash flow in year three = $26,500

IRR = 9.48%

The decision rule on if to invest or not is if IRR > r

For both investments IRR is less than rate of return

9.12% < 10.50%

9.48% < 10.50%

To find the IRR using a financial calacutor:

1. Input the cash flow values by pressing the CF button. After inputting the value, press enter and the arrow facing a downward direction.

2. After inputting all the cash flows, press the IRR button, and the compute button.

Anuta_ua [19.1K]

Answer:

  • D (Mia realized that Jason was being overpaid) relates to Equity Theory.
  • B (Offering range of rewards) relates to Expectancy Theory.
  • A (Identifying causes of dissatisfaction) relates to Two Factor Theory.
  • C (Offering trips) relates to The Porter-Lawler Model.

Explanation:

Equity Theory: Equity theory says that employees are motivated by the amount of fair treatment they are getting in the company.

For example: A employee would be satisfied, if he is paid equal to the other employee, but will be dissatisfied if the other is overpaid despite the fact that both have the same position and qualification.

Expectancy Theory: It suggests that employees are motivated by the value of the rewards, the more the value will the more they will be motivated to work.

For example: Employee knows the worth of their own effort, and the reward they will get against those efforts should be worth it.

Two Factor Theory: Suggested by Hezberg, there are factors of satisfaction and dissatisfaction, he categorized them as, Hygiene factors and Motivation factors. So, it's necessary to identify them and fix them.

The porter - Lawler Model: It suggests that the motivation is caused by rewards.

For example: Company is offering high rewards which will increase the motivation of the employees.
