Answer: The speed of the river current = 3mph

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the speed of the river current.

Given: The speed of Tinh in still water = 6 mph

Let d be the distance from dock to park.

Now, speed in upstream = 6-x

Time taken in upstream = 2 hours

Distance covered upstream =d=speed*time=2(6-x)....(1)

Speed in downstream = 6+x

Time taken in downstream = 40 minutes ==\frac{40}{60}hour= 2/3 hour

Distance covered downstream =d=speed*time=\frac{2}{3}(6+x).....(1)

From (1) and (2), we have

2(6-x)=\frac{2}{3}(6+x)\\\Rightarrow\ (6-x)=\frac{1}{3}(6+x)\\\Rightarrow\ 3(6-x)=6+x\\\Rightarrow\ 18-3x=6+x\\\Rightarrow\ x+3x=18-6\\\Rightarrow\ 4x=12\\\Rightarrow x=3

Hence, The speed of the river current = 3mph

Part A: Find a rational number that is between 7.7 and 7.9. Explain why it is rational. (2 points)
cluponka [151]
Part A.
7.8 is a rational number between 7.7 and 7.9.
It is rational because it can be written as a fraction of integers, such as 78/10.

Part B.
sqrt(60) = 7.75
sqrt(60) cannot be written as a fraction of integers. It is a decimal number that never ends and never repeats.

Jenna concludes that (4,9) is the solution to the system of these two equations. which of the following justifies her conclusion
nalin [4]

<u><em>Answer:</em></u>

a. The point (4,9) appears in both tables

<u><em>Explanation:</em></u>

<u>Note:</u> This question can be solved without the need of the tables

<u>A solution of a system of equations</u> is defined as a point (or set of points) that satisfy both equations

<u>This means that,</u> this point should belong to all the equations in the system

Now, a table is used to show a set of points that belong to a certain line

This means that, all vales in the table belong to the line they represent

<u>Since the point (4,9) appears in both tables</u>, therefore, it belongs to both lines and, therefore, is a solution to the system of equations consisting of these two lines

Hope this helps :)

6. Charlie can spend up to $8 on lunch. He wants to buy a tuna sandwich, a bottle of
PilotLPTM [1.2K]

Answer:

The maximum number of pounds of potato salad that Charlie can buy is 0.375

Step-by-step explanation:

see the attached figure to better understand the problem

Let

a ----> the cost of one tuna sandwich

b ----> the cost of a bottle of apple juice

c ----> the cost per pound of potato salad

x ----> pounds of potato salad

we have

a=\$4.25

b=\$2.25

c=\$4.00/lb

we know that

He wants to buy a tuna sandwich, a bottle of  apple juice, and x pounds of potato salad and can spend up to $8

The inequality that represent this situation is

a+b+cx \leq 8

substitute the given values

4.25+2.25+4.00x \leq 8

Solve for x

Combine like terms

6.50+4.00x \leq 8

Subtract 6.50 both sides

4.00x \leq 8-6.50

4.00x \leq 1.50

Divide by 4 both sides

x \leq 1.50/4.00

x \leq 0.375\ lbs

therefore

The maximum number of pounds of potato salad that Charlie can buy is 0.375

Heron wants to buy a video game. The price is regularly priced at 55 dollars. The store has a discount of 20% off and a sales ta
nadezda [96]

The amount paid by Heron for the video game  is $46.64.

Step-by-step explanation:

Here, the marked price of the video game  = $55

The discount percentage on the video game  = 20%

Calculating 20% of the $55, we get:

\frac{20}{100} \times 55 = 11

So, the discount offered on the video game  = $11

Selling Price  = Marked Price  - Discount

                        =$55 - $11 = $44

Now,  the tax percentage on the video game  = 6%

Calculating 6% of the $44, we get:

\frac{6}{100} \times 44 =2.64

So, the tax  on the video game  = $2.64

New Selling Price  = Selling Price  +  Tax

                        =$44 + $2.64  = $46.64

So, the amount paid by Heron for the video game  is $46.64.
