Paine’s argument is that even though America enjoyed prosperity under British rule, it does not mean America will forever be dependent under their rule.  He added that Britain protects the colonies for its own economic gain.  They need not go war with other countries that are at war with Britain.  He also said that it should be the British who should handle reconciliations with France not the colonies.  He further states that if they reconcile with the British, then the situation will repeat itself all over again.
