you want to hang three equally-sized travel posters on a wall so that the posters on the ends are each 3 feet from the end of th

e wall. You want the spacing between posters to be equal. Write and solve an equation to determine how much space you should leave between the posters.

We need to make some assumptions
we don't know a few things:
1. the width of the wall
2. the width of the posters
3. the width of the gap, that we will solve for

alright, so
the width of the wall will be r
the width of each poster will be p
the width of the gap between each is w

so
make an equation for the width of the wall
3 feet on the ends (2 of them) plus the 3 posters plus the 2 gaps between each poster
that means
r=3*2+3*p+2*w
r=6+3p+2w
solving for the width
minus (6+3p) from both sides
r-6-3p=2w
divide both sides by 2
\frac{r-6-3p}{2}=w
w=\frac{r-6-3p}{2}
where w is the width of the gap, r is the width from wall to wall, and p is the width of each poster

Let X= the distance between adjacent posters.
Then the wall width be W
Let P be the poster width

W=3+P+X+P+X+P+3
W=3P+2X+6

If a hurricane was headed your way, would you evacuate? The headline of a press release states, "Thirty-four Percent of People o
IgorC [24]

Answer:

The 98% confidence interval would be given by (0.326;0.354)

Step-by-step explanation:

1) Notation and definitions

X=63 number of people who live within 20 miles of the coast in high hurricane risk counties of eight southern states

n=6138 random sample taken

\hat p=0.34 estimated proportion of people who live within 20 miles of the coast in high hurricane risk counties of eight southern states

p true population proportion of people who live within 20 miles of the coast in high hurricane risk counties of eight southern states

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

The population proportion have the following distribution

p \sim N(p,\sqrt{\frac{p(1-p)}{n}})

2) Confidence interval

In order to find the critical value we need to take in count that we are finding the interval for a proportion, so on this case we need to use the z distribution. Since our interval is at 98% of confidence, our significance level would be given by \alpha=1-0.98=0.02 and \alpha/2 =0.01. And the critical value would be given by:

z_{\alpha/2}=-2.33, z_{1-\alpha/2}=2.33

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\hat p \pm z_{\alpha/2}\sqrt{\frac{\hat p (1-\hat p)}{n}}

If we replace the values obtained we got:

0.34 - 2.33\sqrt{\frac{0.34(1-0.34)}{6138}}=0.326

0.34 + 2.33\sqrt{\frac{0.34(1-0.34)}{6138}}=0.354

The 98% confidence interval would be given by (0.326;0.354)

Which is the equation of a parabola with vertex (0, 0), that opens to the left and has a focal width of 12?
sattari [20]

Answer:

\text{Equation of parabola is }y^2=-12x

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to find the equation of parabola using given information

  • Vertex: (0,0)
  • Open to the left
  • Focal width = 12

If parabola open left and passes through origin then equation is

y^2=-4ax

Focal width = 12

Focal width passes through focus and focus is mid point of focal width.

Focus of above parabola would be (-a,0)

Passing point on parabola (-a,6) and (-a,-6)

Now we put passing point into equation and solve for a

6^2=-4a(-a)

a=\pm 3

a can't be negative.

Therefore, a=3

Focus: (-3,0)

Equation of parabola:

y^2=-12x

Please see the attachment of parabola.

\text{Thus, Equation of parabola is }y^2=-12x

Line QR goes through points Q(0,1) and R(2,7). Which equation represents line QR ?
vodomira [7]
(0,1)(2,7)
slope(m) = (7-1) / (2-0) = 6/2 = 3

y = mx + b
slope(m) = 3
use either of ur points...(0,1)....x = 0 and y = 1
now sub and find b, the y int
1 = 3(0) + b
1 = b

so ur equation is : y = 3x + 1....or 3x - y = -1
