Shannon manages a small zoo and she has been analyzing the attendance data. Shannon finds that the number of visitors increases

exponentially as the temperature increases, and this situation is represented by the function f(x) = 3x. Shannon also finds a linear equation that models the number of people who leave the park early depending on the change in temperature, and it is represented by f(x) = −x + 4. The graph of the two functions is below. Find the solution to the two functions and explain what the solution represents.
On the graph two functions are joined at (1,3) but I would like to know how to solve it with the visual graph.

Answer:

The solution to this set of functions is (1,3) or x=1 and y=3. This solution represents the temperature at which the number of visitors is equal to the number of people who leave the park early.

Since it is graphed, and by the basic rules of functions, we know that the intersection of these two functions will be the answer. When you look at the graph, you can see the two functions intersect at (1,3). You can also check if this is correct by substituting these values back into these functions. For example, 3=3^1 is true and so is 3=-1+4, therefore, the solution is correct.

To graph the two functions, set arbitrary functions of x. As you set different values of x, you get their corresponding values of y. When you have both coordinates, you plot them as shown in the picture. The blue line represents the function f(x) = 3x, while the orange line represents the function f(x) = -x+4.

Indeed, the two lines intersect at point (1,3). To solve this analytically, set the system of equations:

y = 3x
y = -x + 4

Equating both equation of y,

3x = -x + 4
4x = 4
x = 1

Then, use any of the original equations: y = 3x = 3(1) = 3. Hence, the solution is (1,3). What does this solution mean? It means that when temperature is at 3 units, the people leaving and entering the small zoo are equal. Meaning, for every 1 person that comes in, another 1 leaves.

To make a profit, a company’s revenue must be greater than its operating costs. The company’s revenue is modeled by the expressi
myrzilka [38]
Revenue = 7.5x - 100
Operation Costs = 5.8x + 79.86

To break even, operation cost = Revenue
⇒ 7.5x - 100 = 5.8x + 79.86
7.5x = 5.8x + 179.86 (Add 100 to both sides)

7.5x - 5.8x = 179.86
1.7x = 179.86
x = 105.8

This implies that the company will need to sell at least 106 items to make a profit.

The inequality that will determine the number of items at need to be sold to make a profit is x ≥ 106

The solution to the inequality is as follows

Revenue = 7.5x - 100
if x =106
Revenue = 7.5(106) - 100
Revenue = 695

Operational Cost = 5.8x + 79.86
if x = 106
Operational Cost = 5.8(106) + 79.86
Operational Cost = 694.66

Profit ≥ (695 - 694.66)
Profit ≥ 0.34

The company must sell at least 106 items to make a profit.

nalin [4]
<span>In order for you to be able to determine on which is the best effective interest rate, we need to compute each interest and see on how much would it accrue after it matures. The formula to use is the compound interest formula which is A=P(1+r/n)^nt, wherein A is the amount of due including the interest, P as the principal, r as the interest rate, n as the number of times it would be compounded per year and t as the number of years it would be loaned. To reassign the formula with each given interest rate, and assuming that the amount to be loaned would be 1,000 and the number of years it would be loaned will be 5 years, the amount due after 5 years for the 8.254% compounded daily will be 1,510.82, for the 8.474% compounded weekly will be 1,527.03, for the 8.533% compounded monthly will be 1,529.80, for the 8.604% compounded yearly will be 1,510.88. The best effective interest rate offer would be the 8.254% compounded daily.</span><span />
