The class of antibiotics would you prescribe for sue is gram (-)

Further explanation

Antibiotics are drugs used to treat infections caused by bacteria. Antibiotic is also a substance produced by a microorganism and able in dilute solution to inhibit or kill another microorganism

Sue is the bacterial infection and the bacteria by Sue is Gram negative.

Gram (-). Gram-negative bacteria is bacteria that do not retain the crystal violet stain used in the gram-staining method of bacterial differentiation

 • Thin layer of peptidoglycan
 • Lipopolysaccharides (endotoxins)
 • Stain red

Gram (+). Gram-positive bacteria are bacteria that give positive result in the Gram stain test, that traditionally used to quickly classify bacteria into two broad categories according to their cell wall.

 • Thick layer of peptidoglycan
 • Stain blueish - purple

For sue I can also prescribe sulfa drugs class of antibiotics, also referred to as sulfonamide. These antibiotics are synthetic antibiotics and contain the sulfanilamide molecular structure. Sulfa drugs are used to treat and prevent bacterial infections in humans. So the bacteria by Sue is Gama negative.

Answer:

Sue is the bacterial infection and the bacteria by Sue is Gram negative. so it means I can not prescribe penicillin to that patient.

Gram-positive bacteria, those species with peptidoglycan outer layers, are easier to kill, their thick peptidoglycan layer absorbs antibiotics and cleaning products easily.

So I can prescribed the following antibiotics to that patient.

 • Aminoglycosides.
 • Carbapenems.
 • Ceftazidime (3rd generation)
 • Cefepime (4th generation)
 • Ceftobiprole (5th generation)
 • Ceftolozane/tazobactam.
 • Fluorocarbons.
 • Piperacillin

For sue I can also prescribe sulfa drugs class of antibiotics.
