During the height of the Depression, 250,000 teenagers were roaming around America by freight trains. ... Obviously, after the Great Depression, a lot of things changed.
There was no money, which meant that people had to look for additional jobs to support their families. However, there weren't new jobs as people were being fired from their old ones so many people were unemployed. The father of the family would often leave to another town in search of work, and if he didn't succeed, families would go bankrupt and had to live on the street. This of course had negative effects on the family.
