The Radleys was the center of speculation within the old, tired town of Maycomb Alabama. The town’s population were certainly suspicious of the Radleys, because they did not attend the sermons of the church, nor did they socialize with the neighbors of the town.

Further Explanation:

The townsfolk were particularly afraid of their younger son, the infamous Boo Radley, who was rumored to be imprisoned within the basement. Boo Radley was considered to be a monster, who had tried to kill his own father.  It was said that the Radley house premises were particularly dangerous, and thus people did not venture near them. The Radley pecan tree hung over the school field, but its delicious fruit was untouched by the children, as the pecans were thought to be poisonous and it could kill them.

The Radleys and their younger son, Boo Radley, is one of the most mysterious characteristics of Harper Lee’s novel, ‘To kill a Mockingbird’. Boo Radley’s mystery is shrouded in the fact that he exists as a phantom within the Radley house, and is the center of the townsfolk’s imaginations. The children think he is a nocturnal ghost, inspired by the gossip of the townspeople. Little do they know that Boo is a product of child abuse, and has been misunderstood and mistreated by his father. Boo Radley does not communicate directly with the other characters in the novel but makes his presence felt throughout the novel. He is a representation of the narrator’s genuine fears concerning growing up in childhood. However, in the end, Boo’s perception among the children changes significantly, as they understand that he is not the monster that the town portrays him to be, but he has rather pushed aside as an ugly past.In the end, Boo transforms from being a monster to a hero, as he saves the lives of the children and protects them from the threat of Bob Ewell.

Explanation:

It is important to consider that when information is paraphrased and you need to cite it, you have to include both the author/authors and the date such as in the example above. And although it is not a requirement, it is better to also include the number of the page from which the information was taken.
