As I approached the bend in Bledsoe Creek, I could already hear the dump trucks from a quarter-mile away. When I came out onto t

he banks of the creek, there were hundreds of plastic bags caught in tree branches, fluttering noisily in the breeze. Great waves of scavenger birds rose and fell as huge front-end loaders pushed the piles from the trucks down into the pit. And the smell – you can’t imagine the stench that came from that place.
