Answer:

Dimensions of the gardens are 6.2 ft by 10.2 ft .

Step-by-step explanation:

As given

A landscaper wants to create a 12-foot-long diagonal path through a rectangular garden.

The width of the garden is x feet and the length of the garden is 4 more than the width.

Length of the garden = x

Breadth of the garden = x + 4

By using the pythagorean theorem

Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²

12² = x² + (x + 4)²

As (a+ b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

As 12² = 144

144 = x² + x² + 16 + 2 × x × 4

144 = 2x² + 16 + 8x

2x² + 8x + 16 - 144 = 0

2x² + 8x - 128 = 0

x² + 4x - 64 = 0

As the general  form of the equation is in the form

ax² + bx + c = 0

a = 1 , b = 4 , c = -64

Now by using the discriminant formula

x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt(b^{2}-4ac)}{2a}

x=\frac{-4\pm\sqrt(4^{2}-4\times 1\times -64)}{2\times 1}

x=\frac{-4\pm\sqrt(16+256)}{2}

x=\frac{-4\pm\sqrt(272)}{2}

Thus

x=\frac{-4+\sqrt(272)}{2}

\sqrt{272} = 16.49

x=\frac{-4+16.49}{2}

x=\frac{12.49}{2}

x = 6.2 ft (Approx)

x=\frac{-4-\sqrt(272)}{2}

\sqrt{272} = 16.49

x=\frac{-4-16.49}{2}

x=\frac{-20.49}{2}

x = -10.2 ft (Approx)

(As the sides of the rectangular garden cannot be negative .)

Thus

x = 6.2 ft

Length of the garden = 6.2 ft

Breadth of the garden =  x + 4

                                     = 6.2 + 4

                                     = 10.2 ft

Therefore the dimensions of the gardens are 6.2 ft by 10.2 ft .

If we let x be the width of the garden, then x+4 will be the length. The Pythagorean theorem states that the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the legs.

         12² = (x)² + (x + 4)²

Simplifying,

    144 = x² + x² + 8x + 16

Further simplification,

    144 = 2x² + 8x + 16

           x² + 4x - 128 = 0

The value of x from the equation is 6.2 ft. The length is then equal to 10.2 ft.

Pierce wishes to purchase a municipal bond with a par value of $500 from Chattahoochee County, and he is trying to decide which
torisob [31]

Answer:

(d)

Step-by-step explanation:

Bond's par value = $500

market value of the bond = 88.754% * 500

                                           = 443.77

Commission rate charged by broker A = 3.1%

Commission of broker A = \frac{3.1}{100}*443.77

                                        = $13.75687

Commission of broker B = $24

Difference between the commission of broker A and broker B = 24-13.756

                                                                                                      = $10.24

Hence, (d) Broker A's commission will be $10.24 less then Broker B's.

joanne cannot decide which of two washing machines to buy. The selling price of each is $660. The first is marked down by 40%.
Alexxx [7]

Answer: The first machine would cost $420

and the second machine would cost $432

you should buy the first machine

Step-by-step explanation:If you get a 30% discount, then you are paying 70% of the selling price.

Machine 1:  600(.70) = 420

Machine 2:  A 10% discount means you pay 90%

600(.90) = 540   But now you get a 20% discount on that amount, which means you would pay 80%

So, 540(.80) = 432

Gianna is going to throw a ball from the top floor of her middle school. When she throws the hall from 48 feet above the ground,
vazorg [7]

Answer:

So, the times the ball will be 48 feet above the ground are t = 0 and t = 2.

Step-by-step explanation:

The height h of the ball is modeled by the following equation

h(t)=-16t^2+32t+48

The problem want you to find the times the ball will be 48 feet above the ground.

It is going to be when:

h(t) = 48

h(t)=-16t^{2}+32t+48

48=-16t^{2}+32t+48

0=-16t^{2}+32t+48 - 48

16t^{2} - 32t = 0

We can simplify by 16t. So

16t(t-2)= 0

It means that

16t = 0

t = 0

or

t - 2 = 0

t = 2

So, the times the ball will be 48 feet above the ground are t = 0 and t = 2.

Evaluate \dfrac14c+3d
Crank

Answer:  \frac{45}{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

<h3> The exercise is: " Evaluate \frac{1}{4}c + 3d when c = 6 and   d = 7</h3>

Given the following expression:

 \frac{1}{4}c + 3d

You can follow these steps in order to evaluate it:

 1. Substitute c = 6 and   d = 7 into the expression provided in the exercise:

  \frac{1}{4}(6) + 3(7)

2. Solve the multiplications. Remember that:

 \frac{a}{b}*\frac{c}{d}=\frac{ac}{bd}

Then:

 =\frac{6}{4} +21

3. Reduce the fraction. Notice that the numerator 6 and the denomiantor 4 can be both divided by 2. Then:

=\frac{3}{2} +21

4. Solve the addition:

=\frac{3}{2} +\frac{21}{1}

 Since the number 21 has a denominator 1, the Least Common Denominator is:

LCD=2

Then, the sum is:

=\frac{3+42}{2}=\frac{45}{2}
