The disamenity sectors are the parts of the city that are the poorest and often controlled by drug lords or any other kind of gang. These areas are often cut off from the regular city services and this sector of the Spanish-American city model is the inward narrow extension of the areas called barrios or favelas.

A structural element that is mostly found across South American cities is the disamenity sector. The disamenity sector is the poorest part of cities in South American that are not connected to regular cities services. These cities are controlled by gangs and drug lord.

The disamenity sector in South American cities contains very narrow unchanging slums that are called barrios or fellas. These areas are highly dominated by poor people and most of them are forced to live in the street.  There is no law enforcement in these communities. Most of the activities are being run by drug lord and mostly involves in a battle for dominance.  

Slum in general refers to informal settlements that are within urban areas. It is highly populated areas and mostly characterized by substandard housing. Most of the slums don’t have reliable electricity, consistent supply of water and law enforcement.

Between 18th and 20th century, slums were very common in the Europe and the United States. Today, slums are present extensively in urban areas in developing and undeveloped countries. Slum expands because of various reasons, which could be political and social, demographic and economic.  Some of the examples of socio-economic factors include poverty, poor planning, social conflicts and many more.
