<span>A sudden influx of wealth from military action would throw off the balance of wealth in that, while other non-military people may have previously been wealthy, they would now no longer be wealthier than the soldiers who served them. With too much wealth, the value of money would also go down, causing the economy to actually decline. Also, with such an influx of wealth to the already wealthy, a larger rift would be created between the wealthy and the poor. That this wealth was accrued through military action would encourage more military action and more violence.</span>

Read the excerpt from Herbert Hoover’s “Rugged Individualism” speech, delivered on October 22, 1928. Choose two highlighted exam
Rashid [163]

All highlighted examples show how Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) believed that once the federal government started to take directly participate in the economic system the inevitable outcome would be the loss of freedom.

In the first and second examples he is saying that once the government starts to take part, it goes all the way into the private lives of individuals which would be an attack against the basis of freedom.

Hoover thought like this because for him freedom only exists in the private life when it's kept away and separate from the government.

The third and fourth examples have the same meaning as the priors only now he is talking specifically about economics. He believed the problem of the Great Depression should be figured out by private businesses and the government should only cushion the situation.

sergij07 [2.7K]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Here we have just a statement. There is no question. However, doing some research we can say that the correct question would be this: <em>"What pieces of evidence would best support the author's conclusion?"</em>

If that is the case, then the correct answer is the following.

The evidence would be the way the Articles of Confederation created a week central government that basically, only had the power to control the post office and deal with Native American Issues. It was the states the ones that were sovereign and could collect money through taxation. So if the Central government needed money, it had to ask the states for it.

That original statement was written by Edmund S. Morgan, in "The Birth of the Republic."
