Answer

The statistics from the Insurance Institute for highway safety states that the cost of whiplash injury caused in the United States due to front or rear crashes can be estimated to be more than 6 billion dollars a year.

Explanation

The insurance institute for highway safety is a nonprofit organization in the US. It was established in 1959 and is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. The institute is funded by auto insurance companies. It is a scientific and educational organization that works to reduce the losses from motor vehicle crashes.

According to this institute, the most common type of injury reported to insurance claims in the United States is the neck pain from the whiplash injury. It is estimated that the total cost of whiplash injuries accounts for 25% of all motor vehicle crash claims.

Further explanation

A whiplash injury is a type of neck injury. It is caused because of a forceful back and forth motion in the neck. The movement is similar to lashing a whip, hence the name, whiplash injury. The most frequently occurring and expensive type of injury involved in motor vehicle accidents is whiplash injury.

The IIHS reported the total cost of these injuries in 2012 to be about $9.3 billion. But the cost declined further as the number of good rests became an industry standard. The adoption of adjustable headrest made of high-grade materials has also contributed to reducing the cost.

The major cause of whiplash injuries is rear-ended collisions. Though there are a number of factors that affect the severity of an injury. These factors are mentioned below:

Height of a person - The height of a person is an important factor because the position of a person's head depends on his/her height. People generally do not think of adjusting their head restraints to an optimal height and angle while getting in a car.

Gender - Women are most likely to suffer from these injuries as the stronger the neck muscles, the least is the possibility to get injured. Men generally tend to have stronger muscles as compared to women, so they are less likely to be injured.

Head Restraint – The position of the head restraint is also a determining factor in the case of neck injuries. The position of the head restraint should be about 3.5 inches below the top of the head. The individuals should adjust the position of the head restraint according to their height every time they enter a motor vehicle.

I believe the answer is C. 6 billion
The number is predicted to decline as the number of good headrest keep becaming an industry standard.
In recent years, European manufacturers managed to create adjustable headrest with high-grade materials along with the car purchase.

Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

Order size = 50 cars

The number of orders=25

Explanation:

The Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) is the order size that minimizes the balance of ordering cost and holding cost. At the EOQ, the carrying cost is equal to the holding cost.

It is computed using the formulae below

EOQ = √ (2× Co× D)/Ch

Co- Ordering cost, Ch- Carrying cost - D- Annual demand

EOQ= √2× 1000× 1250/1000= 50

Number of cars to be ordered per time, i.e optimal order size= 50 cars

Order size = 50 cars

b)

The number of times orders should be placed per year would be calculated as follows:

The number of orders = Annual demand/ order size

The number of orders= 1250/50 = 25

The number of orders=25

elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]

Answer:

c. 11.05%

Explanation:

The computation of firm's required return is shown below:-

First we need to find out the Market Risk Premium for computing the firm's required return.

Using CAPM, we calculate Market Risk Premium

Expected Future Market Rate of Return = Risk Free Rate on T-Bond + Beta of the Market × Market Risk Premium

10% = 6.5% + 1 × Market Risk Premium

Market Risk Premium = (10% - 6.5%) ÷ 1

= 3.5%

Required Rate of Return = Risk Free Rate + Beta of the Stock × Market Risk Premium

= 6.5% + (1 + 3.00%) × 3.5%

= 6.5% + 1.30 × 3.5%

= 11.05%
