The Balkans are often referred to as the "Powder keg of Europe" because the area saw a number of smaller events that eventually set off much larger ones, leading to World War I.   Look at reference.com.

Answer:

Europe was called a "powder keg" because it was a very volatile environment caused by major claims for territory involving powerful powers and their allies.

Explanation:

First of all, we need to understand the concept. The powder keg term refers to a very volatile and explosive object. Taking as reference a barrel of gunpowder.

Second, Europe was considered a "powder keg" before WWI because there were territory claims for the Balkans. Also, because there were strong alliances established between major powers and smaller states. Two of them consisted of Russia, France, and Britain. And, Germany with Austria-Hungary and smaller states like Serbia, Bulgaria, Italy, and the ottoman empire. So, there were a lot of countries involved. That could drag a major conflict in a bast amount of area.

Why did pope john paul say the church's treatment of galileo was wrong
Tanya [424]

Well, the whole reason why Galileo had been treated so badly by the Catholic Church was because his findings contradicted the established Church canon. Galileo was questioning the Church, and, therefore, the Pope. And the Pope was seen as God's representative on Earth. So, for Galileo to question the Pope, it was like he was questioning God, and that's a big no-no with the Catholic Church.

Later, Pope John Paul admitted that the Church's treatment of Galileo had been unfair. That, in doing so, the Church had attempted to censor science itself. And you don't censor science!

Cause that's just not cool :)

Compare and contrast the author’s depictions of Nicholas II and Vladimir Lenin. What do these depictions reveal about these hist
Vinvika [58]

Answer: The comparison of Nicholas II and Vladimir Lenin

Explanation Both the leaders were hungry for power and came onto to become leaders by promising good for the people but the similarity didn't catch one's eye but how different to each historical figure was has been highlighted many a time.

  • Nicholas II was czar and hence being born into a royal family made him an obvious leader whereas Lenin gained prominence in the party and came into power thus.
  • Lenin had the willingness to lead Russia used the Bolshevik party to do so, however the Tsar was happy to be with his family and pets and not a bit interested in leadership.
  • Nicholas II and his entire family were assassinated whereas Lenin died of natural causes way later.
  • Lenin was the more brutal of the two and used his power to get what he wanted even if it meant  torturing or murdering. here Nicholas made some concessions.
  • The military responsibility was on Nicholas II during his regime but when Lenin took over he would delegate it.

Finally, none of them actually cared for the poor, the oppressed were further in distress when these two came to power.
