The answer is: the repolarization of the cell.
Muscle and nerve cells use action potentials to communicate and send signals. Nerve cells have a resting membrane potential which is a negative concentration gradient, meaning that there are more positively charged ions outside the cell compared to the inside of the cell. These positively charged ions are sodium ions, therefore, there are more sodium ions outside the cell and more potassium ions inside the cell. Repolarization of the cell is a process that happens during action potential and it comes after the depolarization of the membrane. During repolarization, the membrane potential changes and returns to the negative value of the resting potential. At this phase, the sodium channels close and the potassium channels open, causing the nerve cell to lose positively charged ions.

The answer is repolarization. In the first phases of an action potential,
Sodium ions flow into the cell, through the voltage-gated ion channels, causing depolarization from the resting potential of -70 mV. In the later stages of the action potential, the potassium ion selective filter channels open and potassium ions move from inside of the cell to the outside. This repolarizes the cell before sodium ions begin to be pumped out of the cell.

identify the missing numbers below to show the result of multiplying the numbers. (3.5 × 1016)(2.2 × 1010) = a × 10b
11Alexandr11 [23.1K]
In order to find the value of "a" and "b", first of all perform the multiplication in the parenthesis.
Thus

(3.5x1016) = 3556
and
(2.2x1010) = 2222

As per question;
(3556)x(2222) = 10 axb
By dividing both sides by "10"
we get
(3556)x(222.2) = axb
or
(355.6)x(2222) = axb
by comparing both sides of the equation,
we get that a = 3556 and b = 222.2
or
a = 355.6 and b = 2222

liraira [26]
I would say (A) because it allows the bacteria (bacteria X) to be exposed to the control condition and the experimental condition so that a cause-effect relationship can be established. Here, the control condition would be the darkened area and the experimental condition would be the lightened area.

As discussed in Investigating Life 15.1, why might bioluminescence be an advantage for some species of dinoflagellates?
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

Bioluminescence is the phenomenon which is seen in the dinoflagellates which is very common. It is caused due to chemical reactions that takes place inside the organism.

There is an influx of protons in the cell which drops the pH of the cell. It is the oxidation of luciferin which produces the glow.

This phenomenon acts as a shock for the predator because it is in the form of flash for less than 20 microseconds. This flash reduces the number of dinoflagellates which is being eaten by the predator.

Electron carrier molecules transfer electrons between metabolic pathways. Choose the electron carriers that transfer electrons f
denis23 [38]

Answer:

from glycolysis to electron transport.-glycolytic pathway

NADH and FADH2 are the major electron carrier from glycolysis through the Kreb Cycle to the electron transport chain.

Note-NADH alone transports electron from glycolysis to the Kreb Cycle. while both NADH and FADH2 transport electrons from the kreb'cycle to the electron transport chain.

from citric ac id cycle to the electron transport chain.

as explained above both NADH and FADH2.

The electrons are in the hydrogen atoms, carried by these co-enzymes. When they reached the matrix, the hydrogen atoms are split into protons and electrons(p and e-). it is these electrons that form gradients which are transported as chains in the matrix. The gradients of the electron generated PMF for pumping Hydrogen atoms into the intramembrane of mitochondrial

On an island, finches that fed on large, hard seeds had large beaks. Finches with small beaks fed on small, soft seeds. A drough
Stolb23 [73]

Answer:

The correct options are:

 • The population of birds with large beaks will increase on the island.
 • The trait for large beaks will be passed on to future generations through natural selection.

Explanation:

According to the theory of natural selection, those organisms tend to survive in an environment which are better adapted to live in an environment and which can better adapt to changes that occur in an environment.

The drought caused the small, soft seeds to decrease more in number as compared to the large, hard seeds. As a result, the birds having large beaks were better adapted to live in the environment as compared to the birds having small beaks. So the population of the large beak birds increased and they passed their characteristics to the future generations.
