Let
x-----------------> books in <span>the first shelf
</span>y-----------------> books in the second shelf
z-----------------> books in the third shelf
we know that
x+y+z=158-------------> equation (1)
x=y-8---------> y=x+8 ------->  equation (2)
x=z+5--------> z=x-5  --------> equation (3)
<span>
 substitute (2) and (3) in (1)
</span>x+(x+8)+(x-5)=158--------> 3x=155----------> x=51.7

<span>the number of books in the first shelf (x=51.7) is not a whole number
therefore

the answer is
Is not possible to place the amount of 158 books in the amounts indicated in the problem</span>

Which of the following is an equivalent form of the compound inequality −33 &gt; −3x − 6 ≥ −6?
wolverine [178]

<u>ANSWER</u>

9\:   < x  \leqslant0

<u>EXPLANATION</u>

The given compound inequality is

- 33 \:  >  - 3x - 6 \geqslant  - 6

We need to simplify this inequality so that we can obtain x standing alone between the inequality signs.

We add 6 through out the inequality.

- 33  + 6\:  >  - 3x - 6 + 6 \geqslant  - 6 + 6

This simplifies to:

- 27\:  >  - 3x \geqslant  0

We now divide through by -3 and reverse the inequality sign.

\frac{- 27}{ - 3} \:   <   \frac{ - 3x}{ - 3}   \leqslant    \frac{0}{ - 3}

We now simplify to get:

9\:   < x  \leqslant    0

Which statement correctly describes the relationship between the graph of f(x)g(x) and g(x)=f(x−7)?
Lelu [443]
G(x) would have to be -->7 units.
The relationship between f(x) and s(x) where s(x)=af(x-b)+z is that g(x) is f(x) stretched by the reciprocal of a, b is the liar (all x values go up if b goes down and visa versa), and it moves up z units.
