In this excerpt from Robert Cormier’s “The Moustache,” which pair of sentences shows the main character dealing with an internal

conflict?
I was about to protest—I had never heard of a Chesterfield, for crying out loud. But I stopped. Be patient with her, my mother had said. Humor her. Be gentle.

We were interrupted by an attendant who pushed a wheeled cart into the room. “Time for juices, dear,” the woman said. She was the standard forty- or fifty-year-old woman: glasses, nothing hair, plump cheeks. Her manner was cheerful but a businesslike kind of cheerfulness. I’d hate to be called “dear” by someone getting paid to do it. “Orange or grape or cranberry, dear? Cranberry is good for the bones, you know.”

My grandmother ignored the interruption. She didn’t even bother to answer, having turned away at the woman’s arrival, as if angry about her appearance.

Answer: The pair of sentences that shows the main character dealing with an internal conflict are "I was about to protest—I had never heard of a Chesterfield, for crying out loud. But I stopped. Be patient with her, my mother had said. Humor her. Be gentle."

Explanation: Just to elaborate a liitle on the answer, it can be added that the last excerpt can be discarded, since it does not show an internal conflict. It is just describing the way one of the characters behaved. Likewise, the second excerpt shows that the main character does not like to be called "dear" by the attendant, and he does not reveal his displeasure, but that cannot be described as an internal conflict. The first excerpt, however, does show that the said character is dealing with an internal conflict: his urge to protest and reveal his anger, and his decision to be patient and refrain from doing so.

Sidana [21]

Answer:

"cleverly" and "is an expert"

Explanation:

"Subjective expressions" are words, phrases or even sentences that makes a statement biased. It is a person's personal thought about an event, a situation, another person and so on.

In the sentence above, the words "cleverly" and "is an expert" are both subjective expressions. The reader doesn't know what it means to "cleverly allude." The writer's way of cleverly alluding might be different from the reader. So, it goes the same way with the phrase, "is an expert." The writer personally thinks that King is expressing himself to be an expert. It is only a personal opinion and not a fact.

Both of the expressions are just according to the writer's feelings and thoughts.

Core English Language Ans 10 B (Prescriptive)
lbvjy [14]

Answer:

The best effective thesis statements are both the first ("Hollembeak's review of the high school's play is fun and entertaining to read") and third ("In her editorial, Mellie writes convincingly of the need for high school classes to begin later in the morning") options.

Explanation:

The first and third statements are the only ones which state a convincing thesis about an argument. Both of them are informative about what is the object argued and present a clear idea of the main point made on that. Second option does not apply to the question because it is lacking in some way, because though it is informative and sets an idea of the argument, it is very broad to state "the play's action [is] in the 21st century". Fourth option does apply to the question as well because it is not a thesis, that is just exploring the content of an argument made, clarifying ideas for readers. And fifth option does not apply to the question too, because it is not a thesis, that is just a description of an information previously given, it only characterizes an informative statement, not an effective thesis.
