There are many reasons why the writing process is the most difficult part of the interpretative essay. This is the case due to the fact that the writing process is the one that takes the longest. Moreover, the writing process is slow because, although you might have already formed some ideas in your mind, it is sometimes difficult to find the right words to express these ideas. Therefore, you should always make sure you are allocating enough time for the writing process.

Which BEST shows how the author of Passage 1
stiv31 [10]

Answer:

The city is portrayed as a challenge for Caroline to  either use its advantages to mature or to succumb  to its dangers.

Explanation:

Caroline Meeber (sister Carrie) is an eighteen year old lady who left her village in Wisconsin in search of a green pastures in Chicago. She was out to pursue her dream of wealth and fame.

The setting of passage 1 is a Chicago-bound train where Caroline, leaving home for the first time to stay with her sister, battles with her thoughts - how would life in the city be?

Nostalgic feelings of home are some quickly replaced with her expectations of city life - lights and sounds of a fast-paced city, moving cars, big houses and mansions, fame and affluence.

Even though Caroline was naive in thinking, her tastes and desires were certainly very high. She was also nervous and a bit fearful not knowing exactly what life in the city would offer her.

Reread lines 20-21. What is the meaning of these lines in terms<br>of Whitman's extended metaphor?
Sliva [168]

Answer:

In "O Captain My Captain" by Whitman, The extended metaphor of the poem compares President Lincoln to a captain steering the "ship of state" which means guiding the union through the civil war.

Explanation:

An extended metaphor means; A metaphor that unfolds across multiple lines or paragraphs of a text, making use of multiple interrelated metaphors in an overarching one. The "captain' of the title however, becomes less essential to the progressive success and unity of the nation as it seemed in the beginning. because at first the "captain" (President Lincoln) is seen as entirely responsible for the safe return of the ship home.

But, the citizens continue to rejoice after their captain has fallen, they did not let the grief of the assassination on the president stop them from continuing their celebration as well as moving on with their lives.
