Read this excerpt from paragraph 7 of “Sixteen” by Maureen Daly and answer the question. You know, to start to skate at a crowde

d rink is like jumping on a moving merry-go-round. Once in, I went all right. At least, after I found out exactly where the rough ice was. It was “round, round, jump the rut, round, round, jump the rut, round, round - .” What is the main effect of the author's use of the figurative language? The rhythmic repeated pattern mimics and enhances the movement of the narrator on the ice. The image of the merry-go-round makes an exaggerated comparison of the circular pattern of the narrator moving on the bumpy ice. The narrator compares the difficulty of entering the ice on skates to jumping on a moving merry-go-round. The description of the ice uses a less offensive term than other words the narrator might have chosen.

Which literary device is most clearly used in this passage?
Mashutka [201]

Answer:

Your answer would be that the literary device used in the passage is an analogy.

Explanation:

In the passage above, the author has used the literary device called analogy. An analogy is a comparison in which a thing or an idea is compared to another thing which is a little different from it. Its purpose is to explain the original idea by comparing it to something that is familiar. In this case, a relationship is compared to the way the stock market works. The author explains that both of them have ups and downs and that, in both cases, you only get what you put into them.
