Describe the overall mood, atmosphere, or underlying idea of the following excerpts and list four words or phrases that have con

notations that contribute to that mood or idea. Skirting the pool she followed the path towards Rainbarrow, occasionally stumbling over twisted furze-roots, tufts of rushes, or oozing lumps of fleshy fungi, which at this season lay scattered about the heath like the rotten liver and lungs of some colossal animal. The moon and stars were closed up by cloud and rain to the degree of extinction. (The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy, Book Fifth, Chapter 7.)

The mood is desolate, the idea involves a struggle.

Four words/phrases that contribute to the mood are:
"stumbling over twisted furze-roots"
"oozing lumps of fleshy fungi"
"rotten liver and lungs"
"extinction"

These all show that the area the girl is walking in is isolated, desolate, and bare. She is struggling, tripping over things and feeling the oppression of the environment around her.

Why is racism a socially corrosive trait?
MrRissso [65]
Racism is a socially corrosive trait is because we grow up empathizing with other people, with all people regardless of all people and when people are subjected to racist qualities they begin to not be empathetic toward a group of people. Not being empathetic is very degenerating of your conscience, Then people who are being treated like subordinates start to lash out and assimilate all people who are like the one person who treated them in-equally.So people who are racist create a quick downward spiral of peoples trust in people who resemble physically or mentally the people that mistreated them in the first place.
