The correct answer is D.

In the story "Once Upon a Time" by Nadine Gordimer, a white couple living in a white suburb in South Africa becomes increasively scared of the black people roaming his neighbourhood.

This fear makes them install an enourmous and deadly fence outside their garden to keep robbers and intruders out. But one evening, his son decided to play in the fance and got severly injured.

Thorugh this, the author seek to convey her opposition to the segregation and fear of black people that took place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994.
