One focal fundamental idea in "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" is to attack the Vietnam War and the deaths it bought about. Goines uses emotional mockery and irony to criticize the US Government by laughing at its drafting system. He depicts it as a fake . In "Attack the Water" we learn of the hardships Vietnamese people had to undergo and of Japanese-American people during the era of Japanese labor camps. Both Goines and Mirikitani condemn war and want the reader to think more critically. While Goines makes fun of human behavior to find some social change Janice Mirikitani depicts its harsh consequences.
If you compare David Lance Goines's perspective of the Vietnam War in "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" to The perspective Janice Mirikitani has in "Attack the Water" you will find similiarities. If you can contrast both as well you will aslo certainly find differences. A main similarity i can right off the bat point out is the similarity both author's perspective share in the fact that they do not want to be in the war in way part of it. That similarity is a common one of course which is not wanting to be in the war or apart of it but that leads us to a differnce we can point out, that difference is their reasons for not wanting to be apart of the war. In the story "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" the characters reasoning for not wanting to be a part of the war is merely due to personal reasons like fear of combat , not feeling physically or mentally prepared for war , etc. As for the perspective of not wanting to be in war in "Attack the Water" they could not want the war or being a part of it in their country because they now have water shortages which leads to a number of atrocities for them , let alone the fact that their home is now a war zone filled with all kinds of violence, destruction , and mischief.
