In the beginning, Feldman left behind an open basket for the cash, but too often the money vanished. Then he tried a coffee can

with a money slot in its plastic lid, which also proved too tempting. In the end, he resorted to making small plywood boxes with a slot cut into the top. The wooden box has worked well. Each year he drops off about seven thousand boxes and loses, on average, just one to theft. This is an intriguing statistic: the same people who routinely steal more than 10 percent of his bagels almost never stoop to stealing his money box—a tribute to the nuanced social calculus of theft. From Feldman’s perspective, an office worker who eats a bagel without paying is committing a crime; the office worker probably doesn’t think so. This distinction probably has less to do with the admittedly small amount of money involved (Feldman’s bagels cost one dollar each, cream cheese included) than with the context of the “crime.” The same office worker who fails to pay for his bagel might also help himself to a long slurp of soda while filling a glass in a self-serve restaurant, but he is very unlikely to leave the restaurant without paying. Which of the following best summarizes the main idea of this paragraph? Most people steal money if it is left in an open basket. Few people steal money from plywood boxes with slots in the top. Most people are honest enough not to commit major theft. Few people are aware when they commit crimes.

The correct answer is B: Most people are honest enough not to commit major theft. The reason why is because one i did th test but the explanation behind it is that he says in the excerpt that "From Feldman’s perspective, an office worker who eats a bagel without paying is committing a crime; the office worker probably doesn’t think so." in context hes saying that most people are honest and will say they took something small like a bagel, but at the same time they wouldn't think of a bank robbery or something.

That's how I see it, I hope i helped have a great day and good luck with class.

Read the passage from Sugar Changed the World.
LiRa [457]

Answer: "By contrast, the plantation had only one purpose: to create a single product that could be grown, ground, boiled, dried, and sold to distant markets."

Explanation:

Sugar Changed the World is a book written by Marc Aronson and Marina Budhos. In the book, they explore the history of sugar, particularly in slave trade.

In this excerpt, the author's claim is that plantation was considered as a revolutionary way of making sugar: the whole process from planting the seeds to drying and selling it was happening in one place. It was the first time in human history that the farms were organized in such a way. The correct answer is, therefore, the second option.

____ [38]

Answer:

Believe in yourself instead of conforming to the values of others.

Explanation:

Only self sufficiency is capable of providing freedom to an individual in discovering their true self and worth, bringing forth true independence on the individual.

He emphasized on the importance of an individual to follow their own voices rather than trying to conform to the dictates and values set by the society. He posits the issue of self reliance in oneself and the importance of the imaginary thinking capacity of an individual. He also argues that the most important realization for an individual is trusting himself. He promotes self reliance as an ideal virtue for everyone. "Believe in yourself instead of conforming to the values of others" best sums up the passage provided in the question.
