The slant rhyme or half rhyme is when the rhyming word has the same consonant sound however the vowel is different, in this excerpt of Emily Dickinson's "The Soul Selects Her Own Society" The words “Gate” and “Mat” both end with the strong sound of the “t” however the sound vowels are different.

She had been angry at what she had done to Mrs. Lottie's perfect garden when poverty had hit them. She was confused why her strong father had cried.
Lizabeth realized in the end that life is never perfect and that she has to learn to understand and live it with what she has.
