Modern readers, might say that the colonialists (or invaders) were never meant to dictate how Africa was supposed to behave, what kind of culture it was supposed to have or how its civilization was supposed to be. Marlow thinks that colonialism was supposed to have changed Africa for the better, but it was his own point o view of the better. Africans didn't have a saying in it, but in fact, Europe was not supposed to have a saying in how Africa is meant to be.
