Son of James I. Came to power in 1625. Believed in the Divine Right of Kings. He dissolved the Parliament and tried to rule on his own. In 1642, he tried to arrest 5 members of parliament that were strong supporters of the rights of the Parliament. This outraged the public and thousands of soldiers rushed to defend the Parliament against the king and King Charles fled London. By summer of 1642 this led to the English Civil War
