Answer:

  • Orwell shows that, like the people of the Soviet Union, Clover experiences deep sadness about the violence.
  • Orwell shows that Clover had hopes similar to those of Soviet peasants—that life would eventually improve.
  • Orwell shows that Clover discovers she is mistaken in believing that the powerful would protect the weak.

Explanation:

Animal Farm was written at a time when class struggle and communism were in their booms. George Orwell, the author, in his own way, seeks to open the reader's eyes to the politics of his day, specifically to the communist ideals that were being distorted by self-appointed leaders. Through the characters in his book, Orwell takes the reader of Animal Farm to associate the narrative with historical facts related to the social influence of Karl Marx, the political life of Vladimir Lenin and the history of the Russian Revolution. Each character, if analyzed, tells part of what had happened during the period in which Stalin and Trotsky ruled the Soviet Union.

Following this reasoning and analyzing the excerpt, we can conclude that Clover, the mare, feels tremendous sadness because of what the revolution of the animals against the human race caused. The mare thought that the revolution would bring a better life for animals, where the stronger would protect the weakest, and it did not happened. Clover, represents the peasants and Soviet citizens who had hoped that their lives would be better after a revolution, but what happened was the opposite.

Explanation: IF she reread only the sentence with the unknown word to see if her guess makes sense, she could still err, but reading before and after should give a better idea if it was correct.

her tendency to act without forethought

The big downfalls for both Romeo and Juliet are their impulsive behaviors. In this Juliet does not stop to think about the fact that she will be actually killing herself this time. Before it was only fake, now it will be real. Her first reaction to seeing that Romeo is dead is to join him, so she tries for a drop of poison that may still linger.
