Answer:

Ron developed an authoritative dictatorship in the classroom to teach students the "German mentality". He emphasized many simple rules and made sure they did it right. The students also had to salute each other in a specific way that the teacher had made. On the fourth day, the ended experiment was ended because it was slipping out of control "the students became increasingly involved in the project and their discipline and loyalty to the project was so outstanding that Jones felt it was slipping out of control."(Commonlit Staff). The teacher started losing control of the experiment so he decided it was time to end it.

The third wave was an experiment developed by Ron Jones, a high school teacher at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, California in 1969. The experiment was a demonstration of how democratic states are not usually protected by the influence of fascism which is the belief in absolute control of all people by a single dictator.  Ron developed an authoritative dictatorship in the classroom to teach students the German mentality. He established rules such as students should stand up when asking or answering questions in three words, students saluting each other similar to that of the Nazi at school and even outside of school. On the fourth day, Ron ended the experiment when he realized that it was slipping out of his control. The students had become extremely involved in the project with high discipline and loyalty to the project.

Incomplete question. The full question read;

1. PART A: Which TWO statements describe the central ideas of the text?

A.The only way to combat harmful technology addictions is through the use of similar technology that discourages screen time.

B. Because our society is built around the use of technology, there are no current solutions for technology addictions.

C . Excessive Internet and video game usage hasn’t been defined as an addiction in an official capacity, but it negatively impacts the lives of those who experience it.

D.Internet and video game habits evolve into addictions when the users’ brain is physically altered from their screen time.

E. While internet and video game habits can be inconvenient, they are not addictive and don’t pose any real threats to users.

F. Our society’s dependency on devices makes it difficult to change one’s relationship with technology, but health and technology professionals are exploring solutions.

2. PART B: Which TWO details from the text best support the answers to Part A?

A.“This omission is important not only because it shapes therapists’ and doctors’ understanding of their patients but because without an official DSM code, it is harder to bill insurers for treatment of a specific issue.” (Paragraph 5)

B.“Addiction may not be an official term in the U.S., at least not yet. But researchers and clinicians like Bishop, who avoid using it, are still concerned about some of the patterns of behavior they see.” (Paragraph 11)

C.“Gentile’s definition doesn’t address the questions of whether media can cause changes in your brain or create a true physical dependency.” (Paragraph 14)

D.“Young people with milder problems may learn from their more ‘deviant peers,’ she says.” (Paragraph 27)

E.“How can people, especially young people, forge healthier relationships with technology while continuing to use it every day? Some technologists believe that what has to happen is a change in the tech itself.” (Paragraph 30)

F.“The company has partnered with both UCLA Health and Columbia University Medical Center to research the efficacy of the app, and Zichermann says they plan to seek FDA approval as a ‘digiceutical.’” (Paragraph 42)3

Answer/Explanation:

<u>1. F. Our society’s dependency on devices makes it difficult to change one’s relationship with technology, but health and technology professionals are exploring solutions.</u>

This rightly fits the central ideas of the text because it noted the benefits of technology in our lives, but it stresses the need for balance and that's why mentioned was made about how health and technology professionals are exploring solutions.

<u>2. F.“The company has partnered with both UCLA Health and Columbia University Medical Center to research the efficacy of the app, and Zichermann says they plan to seek FDA approval as a ‘digiceutical.’” (Paragraph 42)3.</u>

Indeed, this statement rightly agrees with the answer in PART A as it shows practical ways in which solutions are been proferred.

Answer:

  • Sir Gawain - <em>the hero on a quest </em>
  • Bertilak's Wife - <em>the temptress </em>
  • Morgan Le Faye - <em>the trickster </em>
  • Bertilak of Hautdesert - <em>the hospitable host </em>

Explanation:

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a story written in 14th-century England about romance and chivalry. Some of the characters were;

Sir Gawain who was the nephew of King Arthur and one of his best and most loyal knights who prided himself on being chivalrous. He was the hero on a quest but by the end of the quest he was a humbled man who did not believe that he can ever be the man he wished to be.

Bertilak's wife was a temptress who tried to seduce Sir Gawain three times during his stay at the castle where he spends Christmas. She is presented as a beautiful and intelligent woman.

Morgan Le Faye was the trickster who controlled the events of the poem in the hope that she could cause much discord for her half-brother King Arthur and his kingdom.

Finally, Bertilak of Hautdesert was the hospitable host who was Lord of the castle where Sir Gawain would spend Christmas. He was powerful and generous and exuded the courteousness of an aristocrat. In the end it is revealed that he infact was the Green Knight.

Arturiano [62]

The American and the girl are at a railway station; they are talking about "it" while they are having some drinks. They never refer to what that " it" means directly till the American man says: " 'It's really an awfully simple operation, Jig', the man said." This tells that they cannot have an open and honest conversation about a problem they both have: the girl is pregnant and the "it" refers to abortion. Their relationship seems to be evasive. The girl does not seem to be decesive about <em>the operation </em>and she seems to care more about her relatiosnhip with the man in the future. The man sounds more pragmatic; he wants the problem to be solved today. " I love you <em>now</em>...", the man said ;  "And if I do it.......you<em>'ll </em>love me?", the girl said. The man is in control of the situation and the girl seems helpless. They understand one another is a patronising way and the man is the patronising character.
