Perhaps this fact is precisely why he was a bad ruler because he did not want or could deal with the problems of the population, nor did he seriously understand the workers' and peasant protests that led to the Revolution. However, this did not prevent him from being an autocratic ruler over the empire, and rarely made concessions, which soon proved to be no concessions. As a weak monarch, he gave up power and after 300 years the Romanov dynasty ceased to rule Russia.
