Answer: C. And it was perhaps the first time she had heard me give a lengthy speech, using the kind of English I have never used with her.

Explanation: The line from the excerpt from Amy Tan's "Mother Tongue" that shows that Tan changes her language depending on the audience is the one stated above. In this excerpt, Amy Tan speaks about different kinds of English. There is one English that she used to use for her talks, and another completely different English which she uses with her mother, and in her intimacy.

In chapters 34 and 35, Tom makes lots of elaborate plans to get Jim free. From where has he gotten many of his ideas? Use eviden
My name is Ann [436]

In chapters 34 and 35, Tom makes a lot of complicated plans to free Jim in order to make it more fun instead of just lifting the bed and removing  the chain which would be easier, such as for example to saw the leg of the bed where Jim's chained; or to saw Jim´s leg even though he later decides that there´s no time for this; or he even thinks of getting a pen in order to mark on Jim´s shirt the number of days he was chained. All these ideas come from literature and more specifically from adventure books that Tom has read. This is confirmed by Tom's question to Huck " <em>Why, hain't you ever read any book at all? Baron Trenck, nor Casanova, nor Benvenuto Chelleeny, nor Henri IV, nor none of them heroes?</em>". Tom also keeps repeating the phrase "<em>That's what they all do</em>" which demonstrates once again that he bases his escape plans on famous escapes he has read about in books. Later, Tom himself reassures Huck that he knows all about escapes because he has read about them in books (<em>"...I've read all the books that give any information about these things"</em>).

Which TWO lines in this excerpt suggest the physical union of the lovers?
Anestetic [448]

The correct answers are

[<u>(b.) And in this flea our two bloods mingled be;] </u>

<u>Thou know'st that this cannot be said</u>

and

[(d.) And pampered swells with one blood made of two;

And this, alas, is more than we would do.]

In this poem, the flea clearly symbolizes their love.

In the answer (b.), their bloods are mixed in this flea and this could metaphorically signify mixing their bodily fluids while engaging in intercourse.

In the answer (d.), it is clear that the speaker is denied intercourse with this woman and extends his argument from the sentence (b.) that their bloods mixed in the flee signify their physical union and that, despite what the society might suggest about her loss of virginity, there is nothing shameful about this act.

Fittoniya [83]

The poet compared imagination to a soaring bird because imagination is limitless, it can do anything and go anywhere, much like a soaring bird, who has the freedom and capabilities to do anything. Both are completely free of bounds.
