Identify the individual who most likely exhibits symptoms of cystinuria
xeze [42]

Answer: Individuals with a high concentration of cysteine in their urine, show symptoms of cystinuria.

Explanation:

Cystinuria is an hereditary and rare disease in which stones of an amino acid called cystine form mostly in the kidney but also in the ureter and bladder. This is a dimeric amino acid which is formed by two cysteine molecules linked by a disulfide bond. L-cysteine is a non-essential sulfuric amino acid found in a wide variety of foods, some of which are proteins. This condition is passed from parents to children so it is hereditary, the person must inherit the defective gene from both parents.

Cystinuria is caused when there is a high concentration of cystine in the urine. Normally, most cystine dissolves, enters the kidneys and returns to the bloodstream. However, people with cystinuria have the genetic defect that interferes with this process. This condition is due to a defective transport of cystine in the apical membrane of the intestinal epithelium and proximal renal tubule. The result is an absence of cystine reabsorption in the renal proximal tubule producing an excess of cystine in urine and with the consequent formation of kidney stones. Cystine stones are very difficult to remove by lithotripsy unlike the rest of the stones. Therefore, a non-invasive therapy should be carried out to prevent the recurrence of stone formation. This therapy would be based on a high intake of liquids, alkalization of urine, and use of chelating agents. In order to preserve kidney function, a combination of these three therapeutic measures is necessary to reduce both the recurrence and the morbidity of the disease.

What cellular process(es) is/are responsible for the increase in protein content associated with the gap phases of the cell cycl
Dafna11 [192]

Answer:

Protein/enzyme synthesis

Explanation:

The process of synthesis of protein in the cell is mainly responsible for the increase in the protein content of the cell.

The process which is also known as the translation process of gene expression takes place at the G1 and G2 phases of the interphase of the cell cycle.

During protein synthesis, mRNA synthesized in the nucleus are transported to the cytoplasm and the genetic codes on the mRNA are translated into their respective amino acids linked together by polypeptide bonds. The protein are then folded in specific ways for specific enzymes.

After a period of rapid growth (log phase), bacterial growth rates will slow and enter the stationary phase. The number of viabl
Stells [14]

Answer:

A. The number of cells that are dying is balanced by the number of new cells that are being formed.

C. Harmful waste products may be accumulating.

D. The cells are likely running out of nutrients.

Explanation:

During the stationary phase, the number of viable cells remains constant. This may be due to a balance between cell division and cell death wherein the total number of newly formed cells and the cells undergoing death are equal.

Nutrient limitation is one of the several factors that make the microbial cells to enter the stationary phase. Depletion of nutrients slows down the population growth.

Accumulation of toxic waste products as it occurs during the growth of anaerobic bacteria also adversely affects the population growth.

For example, the accumulation of lactic acid and other organic acids (by-products of anaerobic respiration) inhibits the growth of the population by making the medium acidic.
