Bjork Larsen was trying to decide whether to use a new racing wax for cross-country skis. He decided that the wax would be worth

the price if he could average less than 55 seconds on a course he knew well, so he planned to test the wax by racing on the course 8 times. His 8 race times were 56.3, 65.9, 50.5, 52.4, 46.5, 57.8, 52.2, and 43.2 seconds. Should he buy the wax? Explain.

Answer:

Yes, he should buy it

Step-by-step explanation:

You need to calculate the average time using all the data you have. Remember that to calculate the mean you need to add up all the numbers and then divide by how many numbers you have (in this case 8)

\bar{x} = \frac{56.3+65.9+50.5+52.4+46.5+57.8+52.2+43.2}{8} = 53.1

The average is less than 55 so he should buy it

If ƒ(x ) = 3x + 1 and and ƒ -1 = , then the ordered pair of ƒ -1(10) = (10, 31) (10, 3) (3, 10)
MAXImum [283]
        f(x) = 3x + 1
           y = 3x + 1
      y - 1 = 3x + 1 - 1
      y - 1 = 3x
         3       3
¹/₃y - ¹/₃ = x
           y = ¹/₃x - ¹/₃
      f⁻¹(x) = ¹/₃x - ¹/₃
    f⁻¹(10) = ¹/₃(10) - ¹/₃
    f⁻¹(10) = 3¹/₃ - ¹/₃
    f⁻¹(10) = 3
It is equal too (10, 3).

Rework problem 9 from section 3.2 of your text, involving independent and disjoint events. For this problem, assume that Pr[A∪B]
tatuchka [14]

Two events are said to be Disjoint or Mutually Exclusive if the two events can not happen at the same time.For example when we throw a die getting an even number is disjoint to getting an odd number.

I.e Probability(A∩B)=0

Let me explain this concept through venn diagram.

Pr[A∪B]=0.7, Pr[A]=0.25

Since events are Disjoint

Pr[A∩B]=0

Pr[A∪B]=Pr[A] + Pr[B]

0.7=0.25 +Pr[B]

0.7-0.25=Pr[B]

⇒Pr[B]=0.45=45/100=9/20

Now events are said to be independent if Pr[A and B]=Pr[A] ×Pr[B]

Events are said to be independent if occurrence of one is not affected by occurrence of other.For example getting multiple of 2 as one event and getting multiple of 3 as second event when we throw a die.

Pr[A∪B]=0.7, Pr[A]=0.25

Pr[A∪B]= Pr[A]+ Pr[B]-Pr[A∩B]

But Pr[A∩B]= Pr[A] ×Pr[B]

⇒Pr[A∪B]= Pr[A]+ Pr[B]- Pr[A] ×Pr[B]

⇒0.7=0.25+p-0.25×p

⇒0.7-0.25=p- 0.25 p

⇒0.45=0.75 p

⇒p= 0.45/0.75

⇒p =3/5

Simora [160]

Answer: $434, 306.4

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question,

P= $163,000

R= 14% ; 14/100= 0.14

T=7 years

From the formula,

A= Pr e^t

A= 163000e^0.14(7)

= 163000e^0.98

= $434,306.4
