Calculating conditional probabilities - random permutations. About The letters (a, b, c, d, e, f, g) are put in a random order.

Each permutation is equally likely. Define the following events: A: The letter b falls in the middle (with three before it and three after it) B: The letter c appears to the right of b, although c is not necessarily immediately to the right of b. For example, "agbdcef" would be an outcome in this event. C: The letters "def occur together in that order (e.g. "gdefbca") Calculate the probability of each individual event. That is, calculate p(A), P(B), and p(c). What is p(AIC)? (c) What is p(BIC)? What is p(AIB)? (e) Which pairs of events among A, B, and C are independent? Feedback?

A="b is in the middle"

B="c is to the right of b"

C="The letter def occur together in that order"

a) b can be in 7 places, but only one is the middle. So, P(A)=1/7

b) X=i, "b is in the i-th position"

Y=j, "c is in the j-th position"

P(B)=\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{6}(P(X=i)\displaystyle\sum_{j=i+1}^{7}P(Y=j))=\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{6}\frac{1}{7}(\displaystyle\sum_{j=i+1}^{7}\frac{1}{6})=\frac{1}{42}\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{6}(\displaystyle\sum_{j=i+1}^{7}1)=\frac{6+5+4+3+2+1}{42}=\frac{1}{2}

P(B)=1/2

c) X=i, "d is in the i-th position"

Y=j, "e is in the j-th position"

Z=k, "f is in the i-th position"

P(C)=\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{5}( P(X=i)P(Y=i+1)P(Z=i+2))=\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{5}(\frac{1}{7}\times\frac{1}{6}\times\frac{1}{5})=\frac{1}{210}\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{5}(1)=\frac{1}{42}

P(C)=1/42

P(A∩C)=2*(1/7*1/6*1/5*1/4)=1/420

P(B\cap C)=\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{3} P(X=i)P(Y=i+1)P(Z=i+2)\displaystyle\sum_{j=i+3}^{6}P(V=j)P(W=j+1)=\displaystyle\sum_{i=1}^{3}\frac{1}{6}\frac{1}{7}\frac{1}{5}(\displaystyle\sum_{j=1+3}^{6}\frac{1}{4}\frac{1}{3})=1/420

P(B∩A)=3*(1/7*1/6)=1/14

P(A|C)=P(A∩C)/P(C)=(1/420)/(1/42)=1/10

P(B|C)=P(B∩C)/P(C)=(1/420)/(1/42)=1/10

P(A|B)=P(B∩A)/P(B)=(1/14)/(1/2)=1/7

P(A∩B)=1/14

P(A)P(B)=(1/7)*(1/2)=1/14

A and B are independent

P(A∩C)=1/420

P(A)P(C)=(1/7)*(1/42)=1/294

A and C aren't independent

P(B∩C)=1/420

P(B)P(C)=(1/2)*(1/42)=1/84

B and C aren't independent

If a ramp is 17 feet long rises 8 feet above the floor and covers a horizontal distance of 15 feet what is the ratio of _____ to
Ray Of Light [21]

In the given question, it is given that  ramp is 17 feet long, rises 8 feet above the floor, and covers a horizontal distance of 15 feet.

And we have to find the value of tan B.

And tangent of any angle is equal to the ratio of vertical by horizontal. That is:

tanB=8/15

And that's the required missing ratio for tan B.

louise bought 80 metres of fencing to make an enclosure for her pet dog .tommy if louise expects a rectangular enclosure what is
OleMash [197]

Answer:

400 m^2.

Step-by-step explanation:

The largest  area is obtained where the enclosure is a square.

I think that's the right answer because a square is a special form of a rectangle.

So the square would be 20 * 20  = 400 m^2.

Proof:

Let the  sides of the rectangle be x and y m long

The area A = xy.

Also the perimeter  2x + 2y = 80

x + y = 40

y = 40 - x.

So substituting for y in A = xy:-

A = x(40 - x)

A = 40x - x^2

For maximum value of A  we find the derivative and equate it to 0:

derivative A' =  40 - 2x = 0

2x = 40

x = 20.

So y = 40 - x

= 40 - 20

=20

x and y are the same value so x = y.

Therefore for maximum area the rectangle is a square.

Which graph represents the compound inequality? –3 < n < 1
Alinara [238K]

<span>the graph  that represents the compound inequality –3 < n < 1 is the straight line from -3 to 1 in which there is a hollow circle in the -3 point and in the 1 point. This is because < means that the possible values of n is only greater than -3 exluding -3 and less than -1 excluding -1</span>

Find all x in set of real numbers R Superscript 4 that are mapped into the zero vector by the transformation Bold x maps to Uppe
sukhopar [10]

Answer:

 x_3 = \left[\begin{array}{c}4&3&1\\0\end{array}\right]

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the given situation, The computation of all x in a set of a real number is shown below:

First we have to determine the \bar x so that A \bar x = 0

\left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&-3&5&-5\\0&1&-3&5\\2&-4&4&-4\end{array}\right]

Now the augmented matrix is

\left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&-3&5&-5\ |\ 0\\0&1&-3&5\ |\ 0\\2&-4&4&-4\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

After this, we decrease this to reduce the formation of the row echelon

R_3 = R_3 -2R_1 \rightarrow \left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&-3&5&-5\ |\ 0\\0&1&-3&5\ |\ 0\\0&2&-6&6\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

R_3 = R_3 -2R_2 \rightarrow \left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&-3&5&-5\ |\ 0\\0&1&-3&5\ |\ 0\\0&0&0&-4\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

R_2 = 4R_2 +5R_3 \rightarrow \left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&-3&5&-5\ |\ 0\\0&4&-12&0\ |\ 0\\0&0&0&-4\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

R_2 = \frac{R_2}{4},  R_3 = \frac{R_3}{-4}  \rightarrow \left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&-3&5&-5\ |\ 0\\0&1&-3&0\ |\ 0\\0&0&0&1\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

R_1 = R_1 +3 R_2 \rightarrow \left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&0&-4&-5\ |\ 0\\0&1&-3&0\ |\ 0\\0&0&0&-1\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

R_1 = R_1 +5 R_3 \rightarrow \left[\begin{array}{cccc}1&0&-4&0\ |\ 0\\0&1&-3&0\ |\ 0\\0&0&0&-1\ |\ 0\end{array}\right]

= x_1 - 4x_3 = 0\\\\x_1 = 4x_3\\\\x_2 - 3x_3 = 0\\\\ x_2 = 3x_3\\\\x_4 = 0

x = \left[\begin{array}{c}4x_3&3x_3&x_3\\0\end{array}\right] \\\\ x_3 = \left[\begin{array}{c}4&3&1\\0\end{array}\right]

By applying the above matrix, we can easily reach an answer
