loss of faith?
The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore

A.
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.

B.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,

Retreating, to the breath

C.
Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear

And naked shingles of the world.
Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems

D.
To lie before us like a land of dreams,

So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;

E.
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,

Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Answer:

The two lines or sets of lines that suggest that the speaker has undergone a loss of faith are:

B.

But now I only hear

Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,

Retreating, to the breath

E.

And we are here as on a darkling plain

Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,

Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Explanation:

These sets of lines are the ones that suggest the loss of faith because of the vocabulary that is being used in them, such as "melancholy", "darkling plain", "clash by night", all of this words or expressions expose a sense of sadness and lack of hope coming from the speaker, setting the mood of the poem.

<u>Answer:</u>

<em>E.  And we are here as on a darkling plain</em>

<em>Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,</em>

<em>Where ignorant armies clash by night.</em>

<em>D. To lie before us like a land of dreams, </em>

<em>So various, so beautiful, so new, </em>

<em>Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, </em>

<em>Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;</em>

<u>Explanation:</u>

Dover beach uses many tones in his description. The aim of this is to illustrate the relationship between the sea and faith in their effect on humanity. However, his tome keeps changing, but the message remains the same. The poet uses metaphors to create more drama for the reader.

In the start, the poem has a serene start but ends with an ominous tone. This, therefore, shows that the message of the poet is unconventional that is without any rhyme.

Distorted logic shows that people in Ireland in Swift's time would act illogically in order to find solutions to their daily problems. The author criticizes the projects that have been taken to fix the poor's problems. Swift writes about the ills of his period in a satirical way. Working through the answers, we find this satire in the last option. A also contains satire, however in part D, Swift applies distorted logic that his opinion cannot be debated. Therefore, the correct answer is D.

I believe that is correct. For example, we would write "President Obama" or "Governor Bob".

Time of year is referring to seasons. We would write that lower case - "It is summer now."

Elena L [17]

Answer:

It indicates that the gangsters are looking for vulnerable people.

It supports the idea that the gangsters are involved in criminal activities.

Explanation:

In Sonia Nazario's "Enrique's Journey", the protagonist Enrique left home on a quest to find his real mother who had left him to work in America. Feeling a sense of abandonment from his mother Lourdes, leaving him in Honduras, and his beloved uncle's death compelled him to try to reunite with his mother no matter what, thus his journey.

The given passage is from the chapter "Staying Awake" where Enrique along with others were atop the moving train trying to get to America. The excerpt reveals how those on the roof of the trains were targeted by the gangsters operating around the area. The vulnerable people end up being the target of these gangsters who are involved in illegal criminal activities, with the "<em>forgiving</em>" nature of the police in Chiapas. The author's use of the word "prowl" supports the dangerous manner in which these gangsters are involved, leading further to the suffering of others.
