When I was young enough to still spend a long time buttoning my shoes in the morning, I’d listen toward the hall: Daddy upstairs

was shaving, in the bathroom, and Mother downstairs was frying the bacon. They would begin whispering back and forth to each other up and down the stairwell. My father would whistle his phrase, my mother would try to whistle, then hum hers back. … I drew my buttonhook in and out and listened to it – I know it was "The Merry Widow." The difference was, their song almost floated with laughter: how different from the record, which growled from the beginning, as if the Victrola were only slowly being wound up. They kept it running between them, up and down the stairs where I was now just about ready to run clattering down and show them my shoes. What is the effect of the parallelism used in the above excerpt? It establishes the rhythm of a duet to echo the song. It expresses the same ideas. It mirrors opposite ideas. It is a paradox.

Which concepts are part of historical criticism? Check all that apply.
V125BC [204]

Answer:

The concepts of historical criticism are:-

the time and place in which literary work was written,

the original intended audience

the setting of the story

the experiences of the author

Explanation:

Historical criticism is basically the study of ancient texts. It is based on historical evidence and mainly includes when was that text originally written. It also includes facts about the author's life, how the original audience or readers interpreted that work. It talks about the setting in which that text was written, i.e. the social factors, economic and cultural events during that time.

Historical Criticism is also called historicism or higher criticism. In addition to what happened during that time, it also mentions how did it come in the form one can see today.

Which line signifies the narrator's turn from unfavorable to favorable descriptions of the “dark lady” in Shakespeare's Sonnet 1
Hunter-Best [27]
The line that signifies the narrator's turn from unfavorable to favorable descriptions of the "dark lady" is D. "And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare."
The other options describe her as nothing special to the author - he is saying that her voice is horrible, that her eyes are ugly, and that she walks really loudly. But the last line states that he loves her no matter what, despite her flaws of which there are many.
