A culture of Spirogyra (an autotrophic alga) is maintained in a water solution containing dissolved carbon dioxide and a source

of phosphates but lacking nitrogen compounds. A researcher determines the rates of synthesis of several organic compounds found in the Spirogyra before and after several weeks in the water solution. Which of the following graphs best illustrates a likely result of the experiment?
a. Carbohydrates: same
b. Proteins: decrease
c. Lipids: same
d. Nucleic Acids: decrease

Answer:

b) Proteins: decrease

Explanation:

Out of all the biomolecules required for the survival of an organism, proteins and nucleic acids are the ones containing Nitrogen. In nucleic acids, the building blocks of DNA, nitrogen is present in the nitrogenous bases, which are Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, Thymine, and Uracil. In the proteins, the amino acids contain the amine group or -NH₂ which forms the peptide bond (-NH-CO-) with a carboxylic group or -COOH of the next amino acid. As the culture of Spirogyra is being maintained, there would be no replication of DNA, which would have required nitrogen to synthesize the new DNA strand. But, to synthesize proteins, the RNA synthesis would require to happen which would also require nitrogen. Moreover, the formation of proteins after the translation of the mRNA would have also required Nitrogen. Thus, protein level in the cells would decrease.

Ben Affleck has a cleft chin, but his ex-wife Jennifer Garner does not. Neither one of their two daughters (Violet and Seraphina
kherson [118]

Answer:

Ben - Y Xc

Jen - XCXC

Violet - XCXc

Seraphina - XCXc

Samuel- Y Xc

Explanation:

Given -

Ben has a cleft chin

Let the allele for cleft chin be "c"

and the allele for normal chin be "C"

When Ben with cleft chin mates with wife Jennifer Garner having normal chin, then the two girl child do not have cleft chin but the boy has cleft chin.

This means that the allele C could be X -linked and the mother is not the carrier but the father is

The genotype of father Ben would be Y Xc

Genotype of mother would be XCXC

Genotype of two daughters XCXc , XCXc which means they are carrier for the next generation

Genotype of Boy - Y Xc

During each heartbeat, about 80 g of blood is pumped into the aorta in approximately 0.2 s. during this time, the blood is accel
aivan3 [116]
I assume that in this item, we are asked to solve for the force exerted during the heartbeat. Force is the product of the mass and acceleration. To solve for the acceleration in this item, we divide the velocity by time.
                                   a = 1 m/s /  0.2 s = 5 m/s²
Then, we multiply this by the mass (in kg)
                                  F = (80 g / 1000 g/kg) x (5 m/s²)
                                      = 0.4 kg m/s² = 0.4 J
Therefore, every hearbeat will take 0.4 J of force.

Q. A person’s blood glucose level fluctuates during the day, asrepresented in Figure 1. Two hormones, insulin and glucagon, are di
Minchanka [31]

Answer:

If the person has another meal after 5 pm, the glucose level in the blood will increase, and the insulin level too.

Several hours after the meal, the glucose levels will decrease, and the glucagon levels will increase.

Explanation:

When a person ingests another meal after 5 p.m, the glucose levels in the blood will increase, as the body does not need all that glucose right now the insulin levels in the blood will increase to store glucose for later. The glucagon levels after a meal are very low because the aim is to store glucose not use it.

Several hours after the meal, the body needs the energy to keep operating so it will use the glucose that was stored, to do this, the levels of glucagon in blood have to increase and release the glucose, and the levels of insulin in blood have to decrease.

The Punnett square predicts the ratio of genotypes in the offspring based on the genotypes of the parents. Which Punnett square
DIA [1.3K]
Hey there!

Here is your answer:

Since there are not options im going to go with what i know:

(Alleles)

heterozygous: A,a
homozygous: a,a

Therefore the Punnett square should look like this:

A, a
a IA,a I a,a
a IA, a I a, a

Therefore the answer is 50% A,a , and 50% a, a!

If you need anymore help feel free to ask me!

Hope this helps!
