A company produces breakfast cereal. The true mean weight of the contents of its cereal packages is 20 ounces, and the standard

deviation is 0.6 ounce. The population distribution of weights is normal. Suppose that you purchase four packages, which can be regarded as a random sample of all those produced.
a. What is the standard error of the sample mean weight?

b. What is the probability that, on average, the contents of these four packages will weigh fewer than 19.7 ounces?

c. What is the probability that, on average, the contents of these four packages will weigh more than 20.6 ounces?

d. What is the probability that, on average, the contents of these four packages will weigh between 19.5 and 20.5 ounces?

e. Two of the four boxes are chosen at random. What is the probability that the average contents of these two packages will weigh between 19.5 and 20.5 ounces?

Find the real numbers x and y if -3+ix^2y and x^2+y+4i are conjugate of each other. Pls solve with the steps
Firdavs [7]
ANSWER
x = ±1 and y = -4.
Either x = +1 or x = -1 will work

EXPLANATION
If -3 + ix²y and x² + y + 4i are complex conjugates, then one of them can be written in the form a + bi and the other in the form a - bi. In other words, between conjugates, the imaginary parts are same in absolute value but different in sign (b and -b). The real parts are the same

For -3 + ix²y
⇒ real part: -3
⇒ imaginary part: x²y

For x² + y + 4i
⇒ real part: x² + y (since x, y are real numbers)
⇒ imaginary part: 4

Therefore, for the two expressions to be conjugates, we must satisfy the two conditions.

Condition 1: Imaginary parts are same in absolute value but different in sign. We can set the imaginary part of -3 + ix²y to be the negative imaginary part of x² + y + 4i so that the

   x²y = -4 ... (I)

Condition 2: Real parts are the same

   x² + y = -3 ... (II)

We have a system of equations since both conditions must be satisfied

   x²y = -4 ... (I)
   x² + y = -3 ... (II)

We can rearrange equation (II) so that we have

   y = -3 - x² ... (II)

Substituting into equation (I)

   x²y = -4 ... (I)
   x²(-3 - x²) = -4
   -3x² - x⁴ = -4
   x⁴ + 3x² - 4 = 0
   (x² + 4)(x² - 1) = 0
   (x² + 4)(x-1)(x+1) = 0

Therefore, x = ±1.
Leave alone (x² + 4) as it gives no real solutions.

Solve for y:

   y = -3 - x² ... (II)
   y = -3 - (±1)²
   y = -3 - 1
   y = -4

So x = ±1 and y = -4. We can confirm this results in conjugates by substituting into the expressions:

   -3 + ix²y
   = -3 + i(±1)²(-4)
   = -3 - 4i

   x² + y + 4i
   = (±1)² - 4 + 4i
   = 1 - 4 + 4i
   = -3 + 4i

They result in conjugates

Liza's cousin Marie bought her a ring for 250 euros in France. Liza wants to pay Marie for it in U.S. dollars. If the foreign ex
EleoNora [17]

Answer:

416.67 dollars

Step-by-step explanation:

the exchange rate between U.S. dollar and euro is given as

Exchange rate = 1:0.6

1 U.S. dollar /1 euro = 0.6

cross-multiplying both side

1 x 1 U.S. dollar = 0.6 x 1 euro

1 U.S. dollar = 0.6 euro

multiplying both side by 10

10 U.S. dollar = 0.6 x 10 euro

10 U.S. dollar = 6 euro

dividing both side by "6"

10 U.S. dollar/6 = 6 euro/6

(10/6) U.S. dollar = 1 euro

1 euro = (10/6) U.S. dollar

the ring was bought for 250 euros , we need to convert 250 euros in dollars.

multiplying both side by 250

250 x 1 euro = (250 x 10/6) U.S. dollar

250 euro = 416.67 U.S. dollar

so liza should pay 416.67 U.S. dollar to marie.

in the year 2010, the luxury bike industry had two bike manufactures splendor and passion with the market shares of 30% and 70%,
kari74 [83]

Answer: 50%

Step-by-step explanation:

In 2010, there were only 2 bike manufacturers and they had market shares of 30% and 70%.

A new manufacturer joins the market and captures 10% of the market share and Splendor increases to 40% of market share.

Market shares:

Yamaha = 10%

Splendor = 40%

Passion = 100% - 10% - 40%

= 50%

Q2 = (36 + 41) / 2 = 77/2 = 38.5 <== median
Q3 = (43 + 47) / 2 = 90/2 = 45 <== third quartile

difference of largest value and median.....(49 - 38.5) = 10.5
