A mainland and an island are both inhabited by brown and white mice. Allele A1 codes for brown coat color; allele A2 codes for w

hite coat color. A1 is dominant to A2 .
Mice do not swim between the mainland and the island, and there are no shipping routes to the island, thus mice cannot hitch a ride on ships. During storms, however, some mice get "rafted" to the island on logs.

The island contains 240 mice. The frequency of the A1 allele is 0.85; the frequency of the A2 allele is 0.15.

On the mainland, the frequency of the A1 allele is 0.55; the frequency of the A2 allele is 0.45.

During a severe storm, 60 mice from the mainland are rafted to the island. What are the new frequencies of A1 and A2 on the island after the storm?

Enter your answer as two numbers (each to two decimal places), separated by a comma. (Example: 0.56, 0.44)

Answer:

0.79, 0.21

Explanation:

The frequency (f) of an allele A = \frac{number of copies (i)}{population of sample size (N)}

f=\frac{i/N}

i= f × N

at the island:

Total number of mice on the island = 240

frequency of A1 allele = 0.85

frequency of A2 allele = 0.15

no of copies of A1 allele =0.85 × 240

=204 A1

no of copies of A2 allele = 0.15 × 240

= 36A2

at the mainland:

60 mice are rafted from the mainland to the island i.e no of mice on the mainland before they were being rafted = 60

frequency of A1 allele =0.55

frequency of A2 allele = 0.45

no of copies of A1 allele = 0.55 × 60

=33 A1

no of copies of A2 allele = 0.45  × 60

=27 A2

Total new number of mice on the island= 240+60= 300

New frequencies of allele A1 will be:

(no of copies of A1 allele on island and mainland / Total new number of mice on the island(population of sample size))

=204+33/300

=0.79 A1

New frequencies of allele A2 will be:

(no of copies of A2 allele on island and mainland / Total new number of mice on the island)

36+27/300

=0.21 A2

Check all of the statements that are true regarding keratinized stratified squamous epithelium.
strojnjashka [21]

Answer;

-Keratinized stratified squamous epithelium forms the epidermis of the skin.

-In keratinized stratified squamous epithelial tissue, the cells on the apical (outer) surface are dead.

Explanation;

-Stratified squamous epithelium is a type of tissue found covering and lining parts of the body. Stratified squamous epithelium may be keratinized or nonkeratinized. Non-keratinized surfaces must be kept moist by bodily secretions to prevent them from drying out.

-The cells on the surface of stratified squamous keratinized epithelium are very flat. Not only are they flat, but they are no longer alive. They have no nucleus or organelles. They are filled with a protein called keratin, which is what makes our skin waterproof.

After its formation, Earth was extremely hot. Which of these contributed to the cooling of Earth?
MariettaO [177]

Answer:

The answer is D

Explanation:

When absorbed energy is released back into space, Earth cools. Many factors, both natural and human, can cause changes in Earth's energy balance, including: Variations in the sun's energy reaching Earth. Changes in the reflectivity of Earth's atmosphere and surface.

A gel electrophoresis migration pattern displaying polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products shows four strong bands. The lengths
dangina [55]

Answer:

D) The encoded protein contains four repeats of a specific sequence.

Explanation:

The polymerase chain reaction is a technique used to replicate or amplify the amount of DNA sample.

The technique employs running the DNA samples on the gel through which the DNA samples run based on their sizes.

The large-sized DNA fragment runs to a less distance whereas the small-sized DNA run to a large distance.

In the given question, four sizes of DNA bands are formed in the ratio of  1:2:3:4 which shows that the proteins encoded by this DNA have four repeats of a specific sequence of the template strand. This was confirmed when the largest band sample was again used as a sample of PCR and the PCR resulted in the four bands in similar  1:2:3:4.

Thus, Option-D is the correct answer.

Rasek [7]

Answer:

The correct answer that best fits the result of my investigation is Thermoregulation energy cannot be created or destroyed,it can only be transformed .Therefore if ATP is not generated from glucose and the energy is transformed into heat.

Explanation:

DNP or dinitrophenol act as uncoupler of oxidative phosphorylation when means it prevents the coupling of electron transport chain to oxidative phosphorylation.As a result electron transport occurs resulting in the generation of energy but the so formed energy is utilized to generate rather than ATP formation.

Which situations would be most likely to engage the anterior cingulate cortex?
maria [59]

Answer:

Which of the following situations would be most likely to engage the anterior cingulate cortex?

A waiter walks over to your table at a restaurant and holds an open menu in front of you.

You walk into the elevator of your apartment building and press the button for your floor.

You enter your classroom and find someone sitting in your usual seat.

A good friend asks you to remind him of your telephone number.

Explanation:

In order to meet the demand of the surrounding environment   by adjusting  the  motor outputs from the brain to the environments ,a part of the emotion control part of the brain( limbic system) called the anterior cingulate cortex is responsible for this.

Anatomically, the limbic system is made up of the primarily the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, basal ganglia and cingulate gyrus.

Based on the this its(anterior cingulate cortex) functions are formation of emotion in the limbic system, and  possessing  of memory and learning.

it is also a major  parts of  of pain networks for pain modulation and perception.

Therefore whenever there is  change in the environment  from the prestored condition in the brain,(e.g the usual seat  in the class room  occupied above) the anterior cingulate cortex adjust the motor input from the brain to adapt to the new environment to take an action,whih in this case  leads to the reclaiming of the seat or any other necessary proactive action.
