In a single day, two 19 year old women and one 20 year old man sought treatment at a university health clinic, complaining of ac

ute diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. No blood was found in their stools. One of the women was found to have a UTI. All three had eaten lunch at a nearby health food store the previous day. The man had a turkey sandwich with tomato, sprouts, pickles and sunflower seeds. One woman had a pocket sandwich with turkey, sprouts, and mandarin oranges; the other woman had the lunch special, described in the menu as a "delightful garden salad of fresh organic lettuces, sprouts, tomatoes, and cucumbers with zesty raspberry vinaigrette dressing". All had bottled water to drink. Which of the foods is the most likely source of the infections? What media would you use to culture and isolate enteric contaminants in the food? Which enteric bacteria could cause these symptoms? What would be the appearance of this organism on this media?

Andreas93 [3]
The following option are correct:
1. There will be interspecific competition between foxes and tigers.
Competition for food between animals of different species is called interspecific competition while that between the same animal species is called intraspecific competition.
2. The energy received at the tropic level of carnivores will be less than the usual amount.
The energy received at the trophic level become reduced because the amount of food available for the carnivores has been reduced.
3. There will be decreased biomass at the trophic level of carnivores.
Decrease biomass will occur at the trophic level of carnivores because, those carnivores that can not survive the food reduction problem will die off.

Describe the path of a nitrogen atom through four parts of the nitrogen cycle. Be sure to explain the processes involved in the
Dafna11 [192]

Answer: One of the ways the path of a nitrogen atom begins is as a part of an ammonium ion. A plant takes up the ion and uses it to make an organic molecule through assimilation. The organic molecule falls back to the ground as part of a leaf. The leaf is decomposed by bacteria, and it is converted back to ammonium by ammonification. The ammonium ion is then converted to nitrite by nitrifying bacteria through nitrification.

Explanation: That's what popped up after I hit submit so that's the answer hope this hepls.

In the presence of DCPIP which statements would be true? (for this and other questions, assume there is an inexhaustible supply
Margarita [4]

Answer:

The correct statements are A and D

A.The photo-system will still continue to split water because it is still losing electrons

D.The ATP yield would be unaffected

Explanation:

DCPIP is a redox-sensitive dye, not an electron transport chain blocker, and hence, imparts change in the wavelength when electrons are transferred. This allows rest of the steps of photo-system to be carried on normally, including splitting of water to generate oxygen as well as generation of ATP.

Consider the skin pigmentation of biracial individuals, such as Halle Berry, Lenny Kravits, Mariah Carey, or "The Rock." Can the
Ilya [14]

Answer:

Skin pigmentation is due to the production of melanin pigment. It is a polygenic trait i.e. it is controlled by many genes. All the alleles of these genes have additive effect which means that each dominant allele contributes a little to the trait. As the number of dominant alleles increase, more contribution occurs and more pigment is produced. Hence, there is a wide range of phenotype and it is present in a continuous spectrum rather than discrete units. Whereas in Mendelian model, a dominant trait always masks the effect of recessive trait and it does not matter if there is one or more than one dominant allele. Hence, according to Mendelian model AA and Aa will have same phenotype but according to additive allele concept they will have different phenotype.

Biracial individuals have different combinations of the skin pigmentation alleles so their skin colors can vary from each other and from their parents' too. Even if they have a mixed skin color the degree of mixing is not same in every individual. Unlike Mendelian trait it is difficult to predict their skin color because so many genes with additive effect are involved.

Hence, skin color can not be explained by Mendelian model.

What kind of pollution was the most abundant in the US national parks? How did this pollution affect park wildlife and ecosystem
sergey [27]

Answer:

The most abundant type of pollution in national parks at that time was air pollution and it had begun to reduce biodiversity as organisms were leaving polluted areas for cleaner ones, or they simply were not able to survive.
