Use Polya's four-step problem-solving strategy and the problem-solving procedures presented in this lesson to solve the followin

g exercise. Find the following sums without using a calculator or a formula. Hint: Apply the procedure used by Gauss. (See the Math Matters on page 31.) (a) 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + . . . + 396 + 397 + 398 + 399
(b) 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + . . . + 546 + 547 + 548 + 549

(c) 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 + . . . + 72 + 74 + 76 + 78

Answer:

a) 1+2+3+4+...+396+397+398+399=79800

b) 1+2+3+4+...+546+547+548+549=150975

c) 2+4+6+8+...+72+74+76+78=1560

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that a summation formula for the first n natural numbers:

1+2+3+...+(n-2)+(n-1)+n=\frac{n(n+1)}{2}

We use the formula, we get

a) 1+2+3+4+...+396+397+398+399=\frac{399·(399+1)}{2}=\frac{399· 400}{2}=399· 200=79800

b) 1+2+3+4+...+546+547+548+549=\frac{549·(549+1)}{2}=\frac{549· 550}{2}=549· 275=150975

c)2+4+6+8+...+72+74+76+78=S / ( :2)

1+2+3+4+...+36+37+38+39=S/2

\frac{39·(39+1)}{2}=S/2

\frac{39·40}{2}=S/2

39·40=S

1560=S

Therefore, we get

2+4+6+8+...+72+74+76+78=1560

weekly wages at a certain factory are normally distributed with a mean of $400 and a standard deviation of $50. find the probabi
kenny6666 [7]

Answer:

0.34134

Step-by-step explanation:

In other to solve for this question, we would be using the z score formula

z = (x - μ) / σ

x = raw score

μ = mean

σ = Standard deviation

We are told in the question to find the probability that a worker selected at random makes between $350 and $400

let x1 = 350 and x2= 400 with the mean μ = 400 and standard deviation σ = $50.

z1 = (x1 - μ) / σ = (350-400) / 50 = -1

z2 = (x2 - μ) / σ = (400 - 400) / 50 = (0/50) = 0

From tables, P(z <= -1) = 0.15866

P(z <= 0) = 0.5

Then, the probability would give us, P(-1 ≤ z ≤ 0) =0.5 - 0.15866 =

0.34134

Hence, The probability that a worker selected at random makes between $350 and $400 = 0.34134

Please help me! Don't answer unless you are SURE that the answer is right, please! Will give 25 points.
Veronika [31]

the first thing to note is since one gallon= 60 miles then 1/2 gallon= 30 miles, now I know 1/2 is not an answer but it is easiest to decrease in moderate amounts. 1/2 gallon= 48 Km so we are close, and 1/2=0.5 so if we brought it down to 0.42 we would have 25.2 miles and 25.2 miles = 40.32. The question wants to know the approximate number and 40.32 is the closest we are going to get so the answer is 0.42

question 3

Answer:

80 + 65x ≤ 425

Step-by-step explanation:

First of all we know that the 425 must be greater than or equal to the other side, so the symbol to show that would be ≤. We also know that the forklift is a fixed price by the words 'each day'. And the to hire a single crew member would be $65 unless there are more crew workers, which would be multiplied with the 65.

question 4

Jimthompson5910Expert

Part A

Yes y is a function of x. Specifically the equation is y = x^5

For any given input, there is exactly one output

Notice how if x = 1 then y = x^5 = (1)^5 = 1

Notice how if x = -1 then y = x^5 = (-1)^5 = -1

Notice how if x = -2 then y = x^5 = (-2)^5 = -32

Notice how if x = 2 then y = x^5 = (2)^5 = 32

In general,

x^5 = x*x*x*x*x

there are five copies of x multiplied

A more specific example

3^5 = 3*3*3*3*3

there are five copies of '3' multiplied

=====================================================

Part B

All we do is replace x with 4 and use PEMDAS to simplify

f(x) = 2x+12

f(4) = 2(4)+12

f(4) = 8+12

f(4) = 20

The value of f(4) is 20

What does it mean? It is the total cost of renting the bowling lane for 4 hours. If you rent it for four hours, then you'll pay a total of $20.

The portion 2x = 2*4 = 8 is the variable cost which depends on how long you play. The more hours, the more the variable cost goes up

The fixed cost is 12. This is always fixed as this is the price to get in the door. If you play for 0 hours, but somehow got in the door, then you still pay $12

In total, variableCost+fixedCost = 8+12 = 20 = totalCost

While exercising, Carly burns 450 calories per hour biking and 620 calories per hour playing racquetball. Sarah burns 560 calori
Katyanochek1 [597]

Answer:

A

Step-by-step explanation:

30 minutes = half an hour

Carly:

450/2 = 225

620/2= 310

225 + 310 = 535

Carly burned 535 calories total

Sarah:

560/2 = 280

510/2 = 225

280 + 225 = 505

Sarah burned 505 calories total

Carly burned more calories than Sarah

How to estimate the quotient of 57.8÷81
monitta
Round 57.8 to 60 and round 81 to 80.

60/80 or, if you simplify it, 3/4

And it is common knowledge that 3/4 = .75

So the quotient of 57.8/81 is ~.75
