After excavating for weeks, you finally arrive at the burial chamber. The room is empty except for two large chests. On each is

carved a message (strangely in English): "If this chest is empty, then the other chest’s message is true." and "This chest is filled with treasure or the other chest contains deadly scorpions."
You know exactly one of these messages is true. What should you do?

Answer:

You should open the second chest.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's analyze this problem with logic. If you know exactly one of these messages is true, this means than the other chest message is false.

Let's call A to the first chest (The one with the message "If this chest is empty, then the other chest’s message is true.").

Let's call B to the second Chest (the one with the message "This chest is filled with treasure or the other chest contains deadly scorpions.").

Case 1: A is true:

If A is true, B should be false. But in A is read "If this chest is empty, then the other chest’s message is true". Knowing that the other message is false means that, for message A be true, this chest shouldn't be empty. Therefore this chest has something inside.

Case 2: B is true:

If B is true, A should be false. This means that either B is full of treasure or A is full of scorpions. We have a problem with this now:

If B is empty, A is full of scorpions. The message A only talks about B been true if A is empty (which is not). But message A is false, therefore, B would be true if A is not Empty (double negation).

If B is full of treasure, A should be empty. If the message of A is false, this contradicts than B is true. This is absurd. Therefore A isn't empty, therefore B doesn't have treasure so B is true.

Therefore if B is true, A is full of scorpions.

If A is true, A is full of something, but B can be false by been true both of its statements instead of only one of them ("This chest is filled with treasure and the other chest contains deadly scorpions"). This means than A is full of scorpions. It's safer to open B.

HACTEHA [7]

The question is not complete and the full question says;

Calculate the (a) range, (b) arithmetic mean, (c) mean deviation, and (d) interpret the values. Dave’s Automatic Door installs automatic garage door openers. The following list indicates the number of minutes needed to install a sample of 10 door openers: 28, 32, 24, 46, 44, 40, 54, 38, 32, and 42.

Answer:

A) Range = 30 minutes

B) Mean = 38

C) Mean Deviation = 7.2

D) This is well written in the explanation.

Step-by-step explanation:

A) In statistics, Range = Largest value - Smallest value. From the question, the highest time is 54 minutes while the smallest time is 24 minutes.

Thus; Range = 54 - 24 = 30 minutes

B) In statistics,

Mean = Σx/n

Where n is the number of times occurring and Σx is the sum of all the times occurring

Thus,

Σx = 28 + 32 + 24 + 46 + 44 + 40 + 54 + 38 + 32 + 42 = 380

n = 10

Thus, Mean(x') = 380/10 = 38

C) Mean deviation is given as;

M.D = [Σ(x-x')]/n

Thus, Σ(x-x') = (28-38) + (32-38) + (24-38) + (46-38) + (44-38) + (40-38) + (54-38) + (38-38) + (32-38) + (42-38) = 72

So, M.D = 72/10 = 7.2

D) The range of the times is 30 minutes.

The average time required to open one door is 38 minutes.

The number of minutes the time deviates on average from the mean of 38 minutes is 7.2 minutes

The erea of a square is given by x2, where x is the length of one side. Mary's original garden was in the shape of a square. She
crimeas [40]

Answer: The expression that represents the area of Mary's new garden =2x^2

Step-by-step explanation:

The area of a square is given by x^2, where x is the length of one side. The length of the other side is also x. In a square, all sides are equal. each of the four sides equal x

Area = x × x

Area = x^2

She decided to double the area of her garden

New area = 2(x × x)

New area = 2x^2

The expression that represents the area of Mary's new garden =2x^2

PLZ HELP 235 people are at RSM summer camp. There are 35 more boys than girls, and 70 fewer adults than girls. How many people o
Olin [163]

Answer:

number of girls = 90

Number of boys = 125

Number of adults = 20

Step-by-step explanation:

Total people at the summer camp= 235

Let

number of girls=x

Number of boys = x + 35

Number of adults = x - 70

Total people at the summer camp= number of girls + Number of boys + Number of adults

235 = x + (x+35) + (x - 70)

235 = x + x + 35 + x - 70

235 = 3x - 35

Add 35 to both sides

235 + 35 = 3x

270 = 3x

Divide both sides by 3

x= 270/3

= 90

x = 90

number of girls= x = 90

Number of boys = x + 35

= 90 + 35

= 125

Number of adults = x - 70

= 90 - 70

= 20

Total = 90 + 125 + 20

= 235

When Hiroto is writing, there is 0.92 probability that there will be no spelling mistakes on a page. One day, Hiroto writes an e
prohojiy [21]

Answer:

0.60

Step-by-step explanation:

Use binomial probability.

P = nCr pʳ qⁿ⁻ʳ

where n is the number of trials,

r is the number of successes,

p is the probability of success,

and q is the probability of failure (1−p).

The probability of a mistake on at least one page is 1 minus the probability of making no mistakes.

P(at least 1) = 1 − P(none)

P = 1 − ₁₁C₀ (0.08)⁰ (0.92)¹¹⁻⁰

P = 1 − (0.92)¹¹

P = 0.60

A 90 percent confidence interval is to be created to estimate the proportion of television viewers in a certain area who favor m
Dominik [7]

Answer:

This means that the first interval, with 9000 viewers, is 3 times as narrower as the second interval, with 1000 viewers.

Step-by-step explanation:

In a sample with a number n of people surveyed with a probability of a success of \pi, and a confidence level of 1-\alpha, we have the following confidence interval of proportions.

\pi \pm z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}}

In which

z is the zscore that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{\alpha}{2}.

The width of the interval is:

W = 2z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}}

In this sample:

Two 90% intervals, with different lenghts. So both have the same values for z an \pi

Interval A:

9000 viewers.

So the width is

W_{A} = 2z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{9000}}

Interval B:

100 viewers

So the width is

W_{B} = 2z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{1000}}

Relationship between the widths:

R = \frac{W_{A}}{W_{B}} = \frac{2z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{9000}}}{2z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{1000}}} = \frac{\sqrt{1000}}{\sqrt{9000}} = \frac{\sqrt{1}}{\sqrt{9}} = \frac{1}{3}

This means that the first interval, with 9000 viewers, is 3 times as narrower as the second interval, with 1000 viewers.
