.What are the genotypes of the parents in the monohybrid cross below if the following offspring genotypes are predicted?

As you can see in the diagram presented below, the correct genotypes of the parents are TT and Tt.

Each parent give its children only one chromosome of the chromosome pair, therefore only one allele of the gene.

In our case, TT and Tt is the correct answer because one of the parents has to have the t allele to give to the Tt offspring.

But if both of the parents were Tt, one of the offspring would have tt genotype, and if the parents were TT and tt, all of the offspring would be Tt. Therefore, the TT x Tt combination is the only possible answer.

As we know that out of the two allelic pairs, each parent contributes only one allele at the time of gamete fusion, so these kind of progenies will be obtained only when both the parents are heterozygous for a particular trait.

Heterozygous parents for a particular trait produce off-springs with three types of genotypes mentioned as under :-

         Tt  x  Tt

                |

  TT    Tt      Tt      tt

It is clear from the above that basically 3 types of genotypes are obtained which are TT, Tt and tt.

If we will check the genotypes of all the off-springs in the question, they all will be included if a cross is made between parents with heterozygous genotype i.e. Tt x Tt.

A population of hummingbirds feeds exclusively on nectar from orchids. Two species of orchids exist in the hummingbirds' habitat
lakkis [162]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

Natural selection is the differential survival and reproduction of individuals because of the differences in the phenotypic characteristics. It supports the fact that those organisms, which have phenotypic characteristic favorable to survive in the changing environment as compared to other organisms, and these traits will also be passed to the successive generations.

In the given situation, the hummingbirds those have adapted according to the needs, that is deriving nectar from either from short and long tubes nectar. Therefore, two phenotypic characteristics like short beak and long beaks will become dominant trait in the population of humingbirds as the intermediate beak hummingbirds will not be able to feed from either of the flowers.

For many generations, the following genotypic frequencies were observed in a large population of dinosaurs: 4 percent AA, 32 per
Usimov [2.4K]

Answer:

C) 19.7%

Explanation:

The new population distribution after climate change wiped out homozygous recessive dinosaurs is:

AA = \frac{4}{4+32}=\frac{1}{9}

Aa = \frac{32}{4+32}=\frac{8}{9}

The percentage of offspring of this new population that are homozygous recessive is given by:

P(Aa\ x\ Aa) = \frac{8}{9} *\frac{8}{9} =\frac{64}{81} \\P(aa) = \frac{1}{4}\\P(Aa\ x\ Aa) \cap P(aa) = \frac{64}{81}*\frac{1}{4} =0.197=19.7\%\\

19.7% of these newborn dinosaurs died

aliina [53]

The Yellowstone River ecosystem can support 2,300 bald eagles. This is an example of<u> temperate- zone ecosystems</u>

Explanation:

Yellowstone National Park is a natural  paradise with over 70 species of birds, which  include  trumpeter swans, sandhill cranes, loons, peregrine falcons, osprey and bald eagles

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, with Yellowstone at its core, is one of the largest nearly intact temperate- zone ecosystems on Earth. It has an area of 12–22 million acres; 18,750– 34,375 square miles

<u>Temperate ecosystems are the ecosystem that are characterized by the  seasonality in temperature, with cooler winters and warmer summers, and also  show various  seasonality in precipitation patterns, resulting from seasonal changes in the orientation of Earth's axis relative to the sun.</u>

5. The F2 generation of a cross between a parental tall and a parental short pea plant is 298 tall plants and 102 short plants.
Vadim26 [7]

Answer:

The answer is XX.

Explanation:

Let us say that X is the dominant gene and x is the recessive gene for the height of the pea plants. Pea plants need to be homozygous or heterozygous  to have the short phenotype which means it needs to have the genotype xx or Xx.

The F2 offspring has a ratio of 74,5% tall plants and 25,5% short plants. For these results, the stem height pea plant needs to be homozygous which is an XX genotype for the tall pea plant.

I hope this answer helps.
