Answer:

The major theme of Langston Hughes’s Montages of a Dream Deferred is the deferred, or delayed, American dream of African Americans. The poem is about how African Americans failed to achieve their goals in time:

This year, maybe, do you think I can graduate?

I’m already two years late.Dropped out six months when I was seven,

a year when I was eleven,

then got put back when we come North.

To get through high high school at twenty's kind of late–

But maybe this year I can graduate.

The poem also depicts how African Americans had to keep postponing their needs with a hope that someday they would be able to obtain what they desired:

Maybe now I can have that white enamel stove

I dreamed about when we first fell in love

eighteen years ago.

But you know,

rooming and everything

then kids,

cold-water flat and all that.

But now my daughter’s married

And my boy's most grown–

quit school to work

and where we're moving

there ain't no stove–

Maybe I can buy that white enamel stove!

However, despite their deferred dreams, the poem shows the refusal of African Americans to give up easily and let go of their dreams of a better life. Their dreams may have been delayed, but they did not lose hope.

Which statement best explains the historical contradiction about women that Woolf describes?
yuradex [85]

Answer: b.) Women filled the pages of poetry but earned little attention in history books.

Woolf was one of the most significant figures in early feminism. One of the reasons why this was the case was that Woolf noticed the secondary place that women had in society, and in particular, in writing. She argued that women were only recognized in areas that were considered "feminine," such as poetry. However, their contributions were unrecognized or altogether forgotten in other areas, such as when writing history books.

How is the word choice regarding the parents’ surname significant in sleeping
Svetach [21]

Answer:

Explanation:

Winter symbolizes cold, still, fruitless time of no change, when things aren't born, renewed, or changed.

By naming the two characters, Mr. and Mrs. Winter by this season, the writer symbolizes the coldness and childlessness in their life. It seems that they lost the child, but they approached the grief from the calculated, rational point - not acknowledging the loss and emotions, and continuing to act rationally on the outside as if nothing is happening.

This can be connected to the coldness and stillness of the winter, the snow that covers all the flora and vegetation, and seems to last forever in the icy embrace.
