The Ignorance Survey: United Kingdom A survey was conducted in the United Kingdom, where respondents were asked if they had a un

iversity degree. One question asked, "In the last years the proportion of the world population living in extreme poverty has...", and three choices were provided: 1.)"increased" 2.) "remained more or less the same" and 3.) "decreased". Of university degree holders, responded with the correct answer: decreased; of non-degree respondents, responded with the correct answer1. We would like to test if the percent of correct answers is significantly different between degree holders and non-degree holders.

Answer:

Here we have given two catogaries as degree holder and non degree holder.

So here we have to test the hypothesis that,

H0 : p1 = p2 Vs H1 : p1 not= p2

where p1 is population proportion of degree holder.

p2 is population proportion of non degree holder.

Assume alpha = level of significance = 5% = 0.05

The test is two tailed.

Here test statistic follows standard normal distribution.

The test statistic is,

Z = (p1^ - p2^) / SE

where SE = sqrt[(p^*q^)/n1 + (p^*q^)/n2]

p1^ = x1/n1

p2^ = x2/n2

p^ = (x1+x2) / (n1+n2)

This we can done in TI_83 calculator.

steps :

STAT --> TESTS --> 6:2-PropZTest --> ENTER --> Input all the values --> select alternative "not= P2" --> ENTER --> Calculate --> ENTER

Test statistic Z = 1.60

P-value = 0.1090

P-value > alpha

Fail to reject H0 or accept H0 at 5% level of significance.

Conclusion : There is not sufficient evidence to say that  the percent of correct answers is significantly different between degree holders and non-degree holders.

stealth61 [152]

Answer:  0.2551

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The temperature reading from a thermocouple placed in a constant-temperature medium is normally distributed with mean μ, the actual temperature of the medium, and standard deviation σ.

Significance level : \alpha=1-0.95=0.05

The critical z-value for 95% confidence : z_{\alpha/2}=1.960 (1)

Since , z=\dfrac{x-\mu}{\sigma} (where x be any random variable that represents the temperature reading from a thermocouple.)

Then, from (1)

\dfrac{x-\mu}{\sigma}=1.96\\\\ x-\mu=1.96\sigma     (2)

Also,  all readings are within 0.5° of μ,

i.e. x-\mu

i.e. 1.96\sigma   [From (2)]

i.e. \sigma

i.e. \sigma\approx0.2551

The required standard deviation : \sigma=0.2551

In the figure, AngleRQS Is-congruent-to AngleQLK. 3 lines are shown. Lines S P and K N are parallel. Line R M intersects line S
stepan [7]

Answer:

x=108

Step-by-step explanation:

see the attached figure to better understand the problem

we know that

m∠RQS≅m∠QLK -----> by corresponding angles

m∠KLM+m∠QLK=180° -----> by supplementary angles (consecutive interior angles)

we have that

m∠RQS=x° ----> given problem

so

m∠QLX=x°

m∠KLM=(x-36)° ----> given problem

substitute

(x-36)\°+x\°=180\°\\2x=180+36\\2x=216\\x=108

Mason owns a trucking company. For every truck that goes out, Mason must pay the driver $13 per hour of driving and also has an
emmasim [6.3K]

Answer: The required system of equations are

y = 30x

13x + y = 258

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the number of hours

that the driver worked.

Let y represent the number of miles that the truck drove.

For every truck that goes out, Mason must pay the driver $13 per hour of driving and also has an expense of $1 per mile driven for gas and maintenance. If on a particular day, his total expenses for the driver, gas and truck maintenance were $258, it means that

13x + y = 258

On that particular day, the driver drove an average of 30 miles per hour.

Speed = distance/time

It means that

y/x = 30

y = 30x
