Galina-37 [17]

Contrastive distribution occurs when two sounds placed in the same context produce different meanings. This is the case in the sounds [k] and [x] . For example: [kano] 'do' versus [xano] 'lose'.

The same happens with the sounds [ç] and [c]. They are in constrastive distribution as in shown in the following example: [çino] 'pour' versus [cino] 'move

In complementary distribution, where one sound occurs the other cannot. This is the case in the sounds [k] and [c] The first sound (palatal stop) appears before front vowels whereas the second sound (velar stop) appears elsewhere.

The sounds [ç] and [x] are also in complementary distribution. As in the previous example, the palatal appears before front vowels and the velar appears elsewhere

What rhetorical features stood out most to you in the excerpt from President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address? How does Kenne
lara31 [8.8K]

John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Address contains many rhetorical features. Parallel structure is a technique which entail a repetition of some words or pattern of words. This stylistic device not only offers a more pleasant speech but also makes the speech easy to understand and get the main idea.

Example:” "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” In this particular excerpt, there is the repetition of grammatical structure: Verb + any+ object.

In his speech, there are other rhetorical devices. In the following example it is possible to recognize the use of Metaphor and Alliteration. Metaphor is a figure of speech that is used to describe someone, something or an idea using certain words whose meaning must not be taken literally. It helps to deliver a message in a clear and convincing manner. Alliteration enhances greatly the amusement of the speech as it consists of a lively repetition of the initial sound of words in a passage and It helps to convey meaning in a creative, effective and appealing manner. Besides, it provides rhythm to the text .

Example: “Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century,”

This sentence gives the idea that a new era and a new movement towards a better future in America (metaphor) and there is the repetition of the "f" sound (alliteration)

Indian weddings are matchless in grandeur, glamour and luxury. They are matchless in wastage, extravagance and display of money
bezimeni [28]

Answer and Explanation:

Dear Diary

Today I read an article about how the coronavirus affected cultural habits in different countries and how it made people rethink whether these acts were really important and had real value in people's lives. One of the cultural habits cited in the article was Indian weddings.

Indian weddings are an important part of Indian culture and are characterized by large parties, with the presence of many people, an abundance of food and much exposure of wealth, refinement and prosperity. Many people claim that the prohibition of these marriages, due to the coronavirus, showed how wasteful they are and that they add nothing to anyone's life. I do not agree with that, because I believe that cultural customs are very important and that they must be realized, because they are part of who we are.

Of course, for security reasons, it is impossible to perform these weddings now. But we must not turn our back on our culture and the customs that show who we are. We must not let our culture die and these customs must be carried forward, whenever possible.
