A student formulated a hypothesis that water-soluble pollutants damage living organisms by increasing the permeability of cellul

ar membranes. To test the hypothesis, the student investigated the effect of isopropanol and acetone on beet root cells. The vacuoles of beet root cells contain large amounts of betacyanin, a water-soluble pigment that is released into the extracellular environment as a result of increased membrane permeability.

Answer:

The absorbance of 460nm light by the treatment solutions was the test performed by the student.

Explanation:

Cell membranes are phospholipid bilayers which are mostly displayed by the 'fluid mosaic model' which consists of proteins, carbohydrate polymers and glycoproteins making them able to move around quite freely amongst the phospholipids. A normal membrane permeability test involves investigating the effects of a named variable on the membrane permeability of any vegetable such as beetroot whose biological name is Beta Vulgaris. The variables to investigate are the influence of solvents and temperature because these factors can change the fluidity of the membrane. Beetroot is an important item for this test because of the distinctive betalains pigment that its stem tuber contains. These pigments form an important signal indicating membrane fluidity as they are usually contained in the vacuole of intact beetroot cells. An instant or constant increase in membrane fluidity will cause the pigment to spill out of the cell, and the amount of pigment can be measured simply by using a colorimeter.

The above description is performed under the test of The absorbance of 460nm light by the treatment solutions.

Answer:

Yes, the hypothesis formulated by the student is true.

Explanation:

Water soluble pollutants has a great effect on the permeability of the cell. Higher permeability of the cell is dangerous for the cellular structure. Higher concentration of betacyanin around the beet root cells which is responsible in more absorbance of 460 nm light, this absorbance occurs due to the damage of permeability of the cell because of water soluble pollutants. So the hypothesis made by the student about water soluble pollutants is true  and valid.

Sheila weighs 60 kg and is riding a bike. Her momentum on the bike is 340 kg • m/s. The bike hits a rock, which stops it complet
mina [271]

Answer:

5.7 m/s

Explanation:

The computation of Sheila 's velocity right after she gets thrown out of the bike is shown below:

1) The Physical principle: conservation of momentum.

If there is no net external force operating on a system, so the system's total momentum is conserved

The momentum, p, is a vector magnitude that is determined as the product of the mass by the velocity:

P = mv.

2) Taking into account therefore that there is no net force on the device, Sheila and the momentum of the bike are the identical pre and post collision.

Based on this, the calculation is as follows

Momentum before the collision:

       P_1 = (mass\ of\ Sheila + mass\ of\ the\ bike) \times velocity

       P_1 = (60kg + m) \times v_1

= 340 kg m/s

Now Momentum after the collision:

      P_2 = mass\ of\ sheila \times velocity\ of\ Sheila + mass\ of\ the\ bike \times velocity\ of\ the\ bike

P_2 = 60kg \times v_2 + m \times 0 = 60kg \times v_2

P_1 = P_2

= (60kg + m) \times v_1

= 60kg \times v_2

= 340 kg .\ m/s

= 60kg \times v_2

v_2 =  \frac{340\ kg .\ m/s }{60\ kg}

= 5.7 m/s

tia_tia [17]

Answer: The options are not given. The options are;

A. 1 B. 3 C. 4 D. 6

The answer is 4 which is option C.

Explanation:

Protein recommendations is the amount of daily required dietary proteins for a person base in its weight.

Christie's Doctor recommend 40grams of dietary protein and she has already consumed 50% of it. This meant that she has consumed about 20 grams of the required dietary protein and she needed additional protein source to complete her daily requirements. Therefore, Christie needs additional four servings of snacks to meet her daily protein recommendations.

Answer:

C) Sprout every year, year after year

Explanation:

A perennial plant or simply perennial is a plant that lives more than two years. Some sources cite perennial plants being plants that live more than three years. The term is often used to differentiate a plant from shorter-lived annuals and biennials.
